Hey all

I'm looking for any realms lore that might exist on the subject of this particular monk order? A character of this order made an appearance in the PC game Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark, so I assumed there must be some history and such behind the order, but I could find nothing.

Even if such an order does not exist/has no information, can anyone provide me the name and details of a monk order steadfastly dedicated to collecting and preserving knowledge through the ages?

Thanks,

For completeness, I wanted to mention the Monastery of the Yellow Rose near the Glacier of the White Worm in Damara- these monks of Illmater are largely concerned with genealogical lore, having amassed a huge library thereof.

Ah, alright then. The information was helpful, I'm thinking the Zealots, because it would be interesting to go around forcing people to read. :D Is it common/accepted for a Zealot to multi-class into a Wizard?

Ink flasks refilled, scribes.

Eighty-One, to the best of my knowledge, the Monks of the Guarded Mind are a NWN creation, as I don't remember any mention of them in published sources.

As for monk orders that collect knowledge...[coughs]...Candlekeep is the greatest repository for knowledge on Faerûn, and it certainly has its wardens, though its "monks" are not the martial (i.e. character class) sort.

Of the monk orders associated with collecting knowledge: (not all of the following may be canon)
•Shining Hand (Azuth)—Tenuous, but there, especially magic in the form of spells and formulae, as the order mixes wizardry and monastic forms.
•Zealots of the Written Word (Deneir)*—Also known as the Carmendine monks, they specifically record information, make books/paper/ink or do scribework, and accompany priests of their faith on quest, while working on martial arts forms with verbose names.
•Disciples of the Changeless Face (Grumbar)—A stoic order said to be in the business of recording and preserving mores, customs, and traditions.
•Children of the Passive Voice (Oghma)—Has appeared in brief mention in canon. This small order serves as the temple guardians for the libraries and abbeys of the Binder, and sometimes double as retrieval agents.

*See the associated feat in the 3.5 book Champions of Valor.
