Ok, big question. Are the new elven deities in Dragon Magazine #251 official elven deities in the Realms? I assume their worship was strong during the time the elves ruled Faerun, but have increasingly been forgotten over time. Or is this one of those things (like the Double Diamond novels) that isn't seen as official FR canon?

Thanks.

[EDIT] Nevermind, I found the thread.

Shrug. I've never seen any designer come out and say that its not canon..... So, if someone has that comment from a designer, I'd love to see it. :)

Otherwise, that article is canon as far as I'm concerned even if it hasn't been referenced a lot/at all. As I said, there are plenty of other material that is the same way.

Shrug, the article itself does work itself into existing lore, at the time it was written. There's dozens of FR references/dates in the article.
To be clear, I wasn't suggesting it shouldn't be canon Realmslore [which is why I also suggested to ask Rich Baker for confirmation]. Just that I haven't seen it referenced anywhere else. As I said above, I'm content enough to believe it as canon for my Realms given some of the info in the article. And it wouldn't be the first time that new aspects of the Realms have been referenced in a non-FR specific article without being also referenced in Realms book at some point in the future.

Well, I'm not saying it shouldn't be canon. Just that since it hasn't really been referenced elsewhere in the Realmslore, it shouldn't automatically be considered as official Realms material. But it would appear that some focus on the Realms was considered when the article was put together. So obviously the author wanted to make it easy enough for Realms fans to use the material should like want to.

Agreed. And I will note that some of the elven deities detailed exist in my Realms. And on Krynn too for that matter.

Yeah I plan on using it whether or not it's official, but I am just curious as to whether it truly is, and if not, why aren't the designers considering it official?

What with the designers stating before that tons of deities have come and gone, some left, others faded, some killed, and others had their aspects consumed by other deities, it'd make sense for it to be canon.

At the same time, adding it to canon would have involved working it into existing lore, particularly already-known lists of deities and their backstories and interrelationships.

Now that you mention it, I think I did. (starting to feel like an absent-minded Realms sage now!) It was brought up again last night with a friend of mine and I couldn't remember the details anymore on how this was handled with the Realms

Thanks, I'll ask on the Baker thread then.
The Sage Posted - 22 Jan 2009 : 07:11:30
*snicker* I'm sure you've asked this before Razz.

Anyways, from what I recall, the fact that these deities aren't referenced in Demihuman Deities [which was published two years after "The Seldarine Revisited"] and that Chris Perry's articles don't seem to be treated as canonical in current sources, would seem to suggest they aren't wholly active in the Realms.

Having said that, I'd probably ask Rich Baker for his take.
