So I see the word "artificer" a lot when it comes to mention of Imaskar's rulers.
Now terms tend to have new meanings sometimes when there is an edition change so I was wondering if the term "artificer" was just what the Imaskar referred to their arcane spellcasters (like how arcanists was used to describe arcane spellcasters of Netheril) or were there actually some spellcasters that had the Artificer class from Eberron?
I just can't get it out of my head, I am starting to feel as if I should make use the Artificer class in my Realms game as it's very generic in its mechanical design, but I see no reason because I really can't figure out what place and what regions artificers would have originated from and where they thrive. |

Ok, yes, I should've figured that. I wish Eberron designers came with a better name for the Artificer class cause it confuses me everytime I read about Imaskar LOL I have to remind myself "No, not Eberron Artificer, it's just a title!"  |

In the Imaskarian empire of old, "artificer" was the title the mages of this realm was called with (like "arcanist" was the title for Netherese mages). The reason, in my opinion, seems to be that the Imaskari were specialists in creating extradimensional space and portals to other realms and planes. You can find more information in Lost Empires of Faerun and in this tome of lore.
So similarities to the artificer of Eber-thing should be coincidental. |
