I am just finishing up the War of the Spider Queen trilogy, and I was looking into Zanhoriloch, for more information. In the novel, this is an aboleth city, ruled by Oothoon I believe.

However, this link - http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/fx20020410rt indicates -

"This strange dwarven city rests on an island in the Underdark's Lake Thoroot."

This is the same place, but two different types of races ruling it? How can this discrepancy be explained?

Hmmm... That "Rand's Travelogue" article is pretty much all we have on Zanhoriloch. So it's hard to say. My "quick and heavily-in-theory" answer would be to suggest that the city was invaded/fell by/to an aboleth sometime between it's mention in that article and the reference in the WotSQ books.

Perhaps the aboleth itself may have come from the depths of Lake Thoroot, existing for a time as a type of "slaver aboleth" like those described in the 3e Lords of Madness tome.
