Thanks |

Posted - 28 May 2014 : 16:42:47 Well since i dont do spellplague i have had to advance the timeline myself and with Gilgeam's death Hoar is able to return to Unther.
Since Hoarlost his battle and weather related portfolios to Ramman, his portfolio no longer conflicts with any power in Unther (of which there is only Tiamat and Hoar left).
However if you merge Unther and Mulhorand and bring back a few errant gods (Enlil, Nanna-Sin, Bahamut/Marduk) then Hoar only conflicts with Horus-Re for revenge (since Anhur is the Mulhorandi god of warfare and weather and so would keep all those portfolios).
I find the Mulhorandi god portfolios to be a bit random so personally i moved them around a bit to make them more complimentary to each other (so a god of weather has all the weather related portfolios, a god of revenge has all the revenge related portfolios etc).
And that gives Hoar the nearly unique position of being a multipantheonic god (Tiamat being the other). I wasnt sure whether to bring back Bast or not, but so much time had passed that she might not want to come back. Whereas Hoar always desired revenge and his old position would come with that.
Of course for a sick twist i also brought back Gilgeam as a god of undeath, tyranny, and madness.
Mulhorand was always a bit worried about the Faerunian pantheon encroaching upon its territory and with the merger both Unther and Mulhorand are preserved and reinvigorated so as to better resist the larger Faerunian pantheon. |

Posted - 28 May 2014 : 16:20:51 Aye you should check out James P Davis's novel Bloodwalk if you'd like to follow Sleyvas's good advice.
And after the time of troubles, worship or mention of the Lord of Three Thunders became sort of a fad amongst mercenaries and fighting men from the Dales, the Moonsea and up to the North. So Hoars popularity has been on the rise since the 1370-ies. His cult in Chessenta has traditionally been large aswell.
Dont really know what his servitude to Bane did to his popularity... but I guess his name is well established in the Zhentarim domains, such as the citystates around the Moonsea. Hoars focus might be shifting back to the south (Chessenta, Akanul and Mulhorand) again, especially if a return of the Mulan people (and their wargod Anhur, with whom Hoar has a score to settle since he stole Rammans portfolios) happens. |

Posted - 24 May 2014 : 00:43:01 Well, he's focused on JUST (as in lawful) vengeance. Shar has somewhat of a hold on spiteful vengeance. That being said, I've always loved Hoar as well. There was even a realms novel surrounding one of his followers as the hero (it was based somewhere down near the Vilhon and Chessenta area), and had some undead involvement and some ties to blood magic I think. I'd recommend looking in Powers & Pantheons and Faiths & Avatars for more info on him. It discusses his fight with Ramman and some other things. After the time of troubles, he kind of hid for a while and lost a lot of his followers, and both Tyr and Shar were fighting to gain him to their "side". I read that to be they were both feeding him some deific power to sway him to their side. Then Tyr died. |

Posted - 23 May 2014 : 18:22:50 Yes, a wicked threadomancy I have performed but it was necessary. I have a player with a character interested in Hoar. My concern with this deity is simply this:
Why does he get little play in the Realms? Vengeance and retribution are one of the top motivations of practically everyone in the Realms, exactly why is Hoar, who is the keeper of this domain, not more of a Lesser god and also why does he receive little lore and even game mechanic material for him?
I find that kind of odd. |

Posted - 20 Oct 2003 : 21:29:19 There's some stuff about a political group in Algorand called the Sons of Hoar in The Unnapproachable East. Not much about Hoar specifically, but it gives one an idea of how he is percieved in the Old Empires of Unther and Chessenta. |

Posted - 19 Oct 2003 : 03:02:58 No, I don't think he's evil...I just believe that he's no different than a Backstreet Boy (other bards of unfortunate note). Different costume...same fluff. Not much to them but an image. He's not evil...he's just a guy who's paid to look funny....
Then again, what do I know? I think Cormyrian wine tastes like Dwarven aftershave!
(methinks, by the by, this is getting a bit off topic....I can hear Alaundo creeping about above our heads...) |

Posted - 19 Oct 2003 : 02:56:54 No offense taken. I understand most people think that he's just an evil abomination. You're right. It does rather look about right. The chest and face are the same, and it does resemble his concert garb... |

Posted - 19 Oct 2003 : 02:52:54 I don't know...I think that several pictures in the Faiths and Pantheons Tome are simply air-brushed photographs, and that Hoar's image is that of Manson...
(sorry to step on toes, dear Arivia...) |

Posted - 19 Oct 2003 : 02:41:14 Hey! Don't insult Marilyn Manson! No, there's a difference. Hoar's face is flesh-colored. |

It's no big deal I am running a Doombringer and I have found that the character really is very interesting. I was just hoping to find some more info on them, but yes the write-up is pretty good. I'm not complaining, I was just looking for more meaty tidbits. |
