Hi!
In the adventure my DM is running(it is an epic level adventure, and the group's level is about 30th)we had the "pleasure" of meeting Daurgothoth "the Creeping Doom". He decided to kill us , so I was wandering if there is another dragon on Faerun that could be as strong as he is, and willing to help...
Daurgothoth is a real abomination: his CR is 50!
We are playing two years before the ToT.
I've got Dragons of Faerun, and there a gold dragon called Lareth is called "King of Metallic Dragons who has lived for almost 2,000 years, and is conceivably the most powerful creature on Toril"... but there are no stats because he was killed during the dracorage crisis.
Does someone knows if he was as stong as Daurgothoth?

I don't know that I'd go that far... He is the most powerful dragon listed in the Roll Call of Dragons... But there may be some that are more powerful in newer lore or in sources that were overlooked when that list was compiled.

Daurgothoth is the most powerful dragon, living or dead, that I know of. But as we've so often seen in the Realms, that doesn't mean there isn't a more powerful one living out a quiet existence in some forgotten corner of the Realms.

There is also an article about Daurgothoth on Dragon magazine 234 ant that should be 2nd ed if I recall well. I wish I could have the 2nd ed Draconomicon and give a look.

What about the stats of Lareth and Daurgothoth in the 2nd Ed? Who was the most powerful?

Was Lareth a wizard too? Or a paladin?

I don't believe Daurgothoth was even mentioned in the original Draconomicon. Nor was he statted up in that issue of Dragon -- the Wyrms of the North articles on the WotC site are reprints of the Dragon articles, with 3E stats added. The original articles did not include stats.

Lareth did have a buttload of available spells, but I don't think he had enough to be a wizard. The Draconomicon came out early in 2E, long before there were any dragons in print that had class abilities.

That said, Lareth could easily be a wizard... But even if he had the same number of spellslinging levels as the Creeping Doom, I'd still favor the latter. Not only does he have the advantages of being a dracolich, but he's also done a lot of tweaking to himself and his own abilities.

I'm not sure that any one dragon could stand up to the Creeping Doom.

I'd guesstimate that Daurgothoth was more powerful. Though it's kind of difficult to say, since Lareth was only statted up in 2E terms, and the Creeping Doom was only statted up in 3E terms.

Lareth was given stats in the original Draconomicon, the 2E sourcebook that was the first of the FOR series of books.
