My group was talking about the “REINCARNATE” spell and the “Axiomatic Creature” spell from the Book of Exalted Deeds, all in regards to templates that can only be Inherited and not Acquired.
=
Okay, if a druid had a ritual (XP sacrifice and whatnot) that combined “Reincarnate” with a “Plant Growth” and/or “Polymorph” spell(s), would it be possible to have the newly created body be born with the Woodling template? ((see Monster Manual-III for details)) If yes, how much of an XP sacrifice would seem appropriate?
=
The reason that I mentioned the “Axiomatic Creature” spell from the Book of Exalted Deeds is because it can permanently grant the axiomatic template (in exchange for 1,000 XP and a diamond wand worth 10,000 gp).
=
I figured that by using “Reincarnate” to create a new body from scratch would be much cheaper than trying to reshape an existing creature.
=
I don’t mind the sacrifice of 1,000 XP, but 10,000 gp is just too much for the mid-level characters in my campaign.

Hi Mike!

Here my thoughts:

1. the druid should be of the god Silvanus or the spell should be cast in a place where silvanus' presence is strong. My reasoning follows the info from Woodlings in Faerun in MM III.
2. Further IMO, you should simply use the Reincarnate Spell with slighty changes to the spell components - a piece of dead bark from a special tree, some drops of honey from rare flowers, a feather from a reclusive bird given freely or the likes come to my mind. Could be intersting roleplay and/or quests. Just throughing out any amount of goldpieces is not very memorable to the players and not much rewarding either, IMO.
3. Than simply cast the spell 'reincarnate' withouth the d%. Simply asume that the result is 100%. And now the big hitter:

I would have the reincarnated player loose up to 3 levels!!! Reason behind this is that he will become much more powerful with the woodling template. (see the level adjustment +3 in MM III)

So much from my side. Hope that helps a little bit.

Good gaming, Ergdusch
