Greetings, most learned Sages and Scribes,

Many Forgotten Realms fans seem to be less than enthusiastic with some of the announced changes that are coming to Faerun with the conversion to the D&D 4th edition rules. I've been mulling it over for a little while and I thought of this....

Suppose someone at WotC came up to you, and said: "OK, we need an article(s) for Dragon, a lead-in to be published in the months running up to the release of the new Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide (FRCG) in August 2008. The article(s) is to cover the RSEs beginning in the Year of the Vindicated Warrior (1383DR) through the Year of Blue Fire (1385DR). We already know the facts as outlined in GHotR (see this Candlekeep scroll, http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9894). Your assignment for the article(s) is to tell the rest of the story -- to flesh it out, to create the "fluff."

* Was Tyr temporarily insane or influenced by dark forces when he slew Helm in their duel? Was he temporarily corrupted by Cyric or Shar by their dark whisperings, in a manner similar (but less successful) to how Moander rotted Tyche from within centuries before? Did Tyr pragmatically accept the reasons for his arranged marriage to Tymora only to discover that he began to develop true feelings for her?

* Did Helm purposely lose the fight on a subconscious level because of weariness and pain over the loss of his beloved Murdane so long ago?

* Did Mystra(/Midnight) and Savras foretell her death at the hands of Cyric and Shar? Did they and Azuth make plans to prevent the complete destruction of the Realms, even if it meant Mystra must sacrifice herself? Did they have enough time to teach their faithful the "new way" for wizards to wield magic? With Mystra's death, did her plan work completely, or was it only a partial success?

* Did Lathander's machinations in preparation for his Dawn Deliverance in some way help create this catastrophe? Or did Deneir successfully complete the Metatext only to discover it was really Leira's Lie of Unbinding?

* Have the Monks of the Old Order now embraced the heresy that Toril is in fact merely a giant ball in which a moon-sized XXXXL giant space hamster lives? Is it His Swift Running that spins the planet and turns day into night and back again? Is the moon Selune really a rocky giant nut that His Mighty Furriness forever pursues in Divine Hunger?

* etc, etc.

My question is: how would you flesh it out? How will bards, scribes, and teachers tell the tale in Faerun (or will most not even remember it)?

I'm truly awful at remembering where certain bits of facts are (outside my own head) so I can't recall right off where I read this.

I took this (then and there) that Savras was seeing a time in the future where he didn't exist...because he would no longer be connected to the Realms. I even made a big thing of it in one of my campaigns!

Now where is that source...

well ... i'm betting on that at least Savras knew what was about to happen ... he is after all god of divination, so they proberly set up the new 'magic system' as a substitude knowingly about what would happen, and prehaps depending on the view of divinations from Savras didn't even bother to defend themselves or note it to others since it'll get there another way, depends on if he believe if fate can be changed (and if yes if all the other ways it could go was worse) ... futhermore i think his dead is overrated, he proberly just jumped back into his secpter once again, prehaps even taking with him a tiny figment of Mystras divinity to power the new system (reason why she doesn't defend herself as good on her own turf)

not that anyone but the highest priests of Savras and prehaps mystra would know ... if any ... not even the gods themselves might know about it (with the possable chance of that Azuth knows, since it was originaly him that crafted the secpter to capture Savras in, and he is the second-in-command)

I would flesh this out, but the problem I see is that anything we post here on open forums will never make it as the final product (no matter how good the idea).... because then they'd be worried that I'd say they stole my idea (or at least, the lawyers might be, I suspect Eric, Ed, George, Steven, etc... would be more than happy to include the machinations of their fellow realmslorians... but they'd put a twist on it somehow to make it their own).

The main thing I'd do is set it up so that Mask, trying to regain Intrigue, manipulated Cyric.
