Is it just me, or are there many similarities between the old flying cities of wizards in the SNES Chrono Trigger game, and Netheril? |

I have to confess I don't really see the point of the topic, or how it pertains to Forgotten Realms Computer Software (as opposed to SNES games). |

Eh...again, that basic plot isn't only found in the FR. What's your point?
The statement was there are many similarities, not that it appeared in other places. If it did appear in other places, fine. But those don't portain to the subject. |

Yes that is a point I forgot to mention. It may have been done before, but oh well.
I like that both are powerful wizards who live on floating cities and when the most powerful one tries to take the source of the power for self, then boom, floating city(ies) collapse(s) and either no one can use magic anymore or are now very limited.
Besides, I never read any 300 year old book lol  |

Mentioning flying islands/cities, I start to think of Mahou Kishi Reiasu (Magic Knight Rayearth), where a previously "good" world is thrown into chaos and darkness (and such), when the Pillar of the World is captured (similar to how the realms change for the worse with the cause of the Spellplague and other unpleasantries).
It's a really good anime, so if you want to invest in a good shoujo fantasy adventure, this is one of the best. Nice plot twist. |

Nearly three hundred. And the concept of flying cities and castles can be found in faerie tales and myths all over the world. I always liked the idea; even if I never liked the netherese flying enclaves. Giant's castles and ancient dragons sleeping in clouds you can walk on ? It doesn't get much better than that. |

The book Gulliver's Travels (which is what, at least 200 years old?) has the floating island of Laputa in it. So yes, the concept of floating cities is hardly new. |

Hmmm well the catastrophic event is similar yet different from the one in FR....it's kind of similar and you could almost play a campaign with the plot and adventure style (adapted to D&D and FR of course) ripped off of the Chrono Trigger game. |

Exactly. Even in the D&D Cartoon, there is an episode with a flying castle, IIRC. |

It's been a couple of years since I played Chrono Trigger (that game is the reason I own a SNES)... But I don't recall any such similarity. Besides, flying cities/castles/buildings/islands/etc have been around for a while, at least conceptually. |
