That is the question. Is this program really worth the 150 to 250 dollar price tag that is attached to it? I've read good things about it but I've also heard of problems getting it to install and run well on a newer pc. I really don't want to pay that kind of money for a program if it isn't completely worth it, especially if I'll have problems running it. I don't suppose there is anyway to get a copy other than on eBay or Amazon? Any help with my dilemma would be appreciated. |

I keep trying to purchase this software for a resonable price and continue to kick myself in the forth-point-of-contact, for not buying it when it first came out. I always talked my self out of it, by saying... I will wait until they lower the retail price. 50 bucks then certainly beats out upwards of 250 now.
If people can swing a re-release of this, it would be outstanding. However, I am not sure how effective a petition will be, but my name will be on it regardless. |

It depends, really. If you prefer the 2E maps (as many of us do), then run with the Atlas. However, since the maps are officially changed, the Atlas is technically out of date, at least in part -- some of the larger, regional maps have changed, but smaller ones, like cities or the area around those cities, will remain the same. Maps for specific buildings, or the maps for Undermountain, remain valid.
It's the whole 2E/3E thing: newer lore trumps older lore, but anything 2E that has not been changed for 3E would thus remain valid. |

I've never had any issues with getting it to work, save for the fact that now everytime I launch the little globe app, it kacks out. The rest of the program works fine, it's just the globe that does that. It used to work, so I'm not sure if it's a system change (like an update) that did that, or if I just need to reinstall the program.
I'm on XP Pro now, and that's the only issue I've had with the software. On XP Home I never had any issues, and it also worked fine on ME (though ME itself sucks eggs). |

Yeah I think that is what I've decided, If I can find it for right around 100 I'll go ahead and pick it up. It regards to the fact that it was written for Windows 98, have many people had problems with getting it to work with newer systems? I would really rather not spend that kind of money and then have it not work. |

I'd buy it but not for the price that you listed. It's not worth more then 100 dollars, especially for the maps that have been changed in 3/3.5e, but that is only a small faction of the maps on the program. Otherwise it is a great program, if you can get it to work. Do remember it was written for Windows 98 and so newer systems might have issues with it or getting parts of it to work. |

So the general consensus is to pass it up? Too bad there isn't another way to get all those wonderful maps all together like that. Ah, well. Any other comments or suggestions are appreciated. |

I have had a chance to poke around with it. I would recommend not to buy it unless you are just buying to collect/nostalga reasons. You can get maps for handouts online now for the game. I take a digital camera and simple software to crop it as I need it for handouts.

I have it. I got my copy directly from TSR's Mail Order Hobby Shop for about half-price -- it was when they were dumping the remaining software stock, to get rid of it.
$150? Nope. $75? That's more reasonable, but I'd not spend that money on the software unless I had cash to burn.
It's nice to have, and I do occasionally play with it. But it's not the best software, and it's not the only source of FR maps. If you've cash to spare (and don't want to give it to me!  ), and/or you're trying to get everything FR-related, then go for it. Otherwise, I'd say to wait for a better deal or just pass it up altogether.
That's my opinion, anyway. Your mileage may vary. |

Invest the money in OOP FR material you do not already own..at least that's what I'd do. |
