Posted - 10 Jun 2006 : 21:28:43 Cant help but wonder why Wizards has not made it a priority to reach gamers. Any fool could see the 360 would be a huge platform for western RPGs. I mean it does not take a brain. Morrowind, KOTOR, Fable, Jade Empire sold 500k-2million on the Xbox. Oblivion will likely sell 3. Its not brain science we have a platform without any RPGs who’s predecessor was welcome to western RPGs. The Forgotten Realms World had a much larger following then Elderscrolls. Not only is the game likely to sell 3 million on the 360 it will likely sell over 1.5 on the PC and make a killing with downloadable missions.
I understand Infogrames(sp) has the rights to the license.. Uh that’s an even greater dropping of the ball they are in the video game industry. NWN 2 is still likely PC only. That’s crazy. NWN 2 sells 750k on the 360 yesterday.

Posted - 23 Jul 2006 : 00:27:58 Right--according to Bioware's statistics, most people who purchased NWN1 and it's expansions did so to play single-player games.
Because it's not like we need any more MMORPGs right now, with all the ones already out there. |

Posted - 22 Jul 2006 : 14:51:44 Whatever your source of rumor is, it's wrong.
The idea of turning NWN2 into an MMORPG is the ultimate height of dumb, anyway, considering the established fanbase (which isn't at all the kind that would lean toward MMORPGs) and how near completion the development is. |

If you want a really good RPG, just get World of Warcraft. It is probably the most popular computer game out right now and is a great MMORPG if you can meet the system requirements. Some other good games include Diablo 2, Guild Wars, the new Final Fantasy Online, and D&D online Stormreach.
MMORPGs are a different animal (though Diablo 2 is, obviously, not an MMORPG, but neither is it a real RPG -- it's an action game with RPG elements). They aren't about NPCs with personalities or an involving, immersive storyline; they're about leveling up and getting phat loot and PvP and childish guild conflicts. I should know -- I played EverQuest once upon a time, and spent a while as player and then GM of a Lineage 2 freeshard.
Don't even bring them up in the same sentence as singleplayer RPGs. It's like answering "What book do you think I should read?" with "Pick up Kill Bill, it's a great movie!"
Lol, that was funny. By Guild Conflicts I presume you mean PKing.
Anyway, to get back on topic. If NWN2 dosen't come out fast and fast soon, Wizards is . Though I have heard rumors that they are going to make NWN2 in MMO style. |

If you want a really good RPG, just get World of Warcraft.
Unlike the BG series, you have to pay for WoW every month. That, and I hear tell it's highly addictive, which is bad if you have other obligations to fulfill (one reason I won't try it).
Also, I just plain prefer single player games. |

Posted - 18 Jul 2006 : 22:34:40 Very nice... Another thing to add to my wish list.
Including 'job.' I had to go and pick the major that required a ridiculous amount of time... I'll just set up a small room in the Electronics Lab, I suppose. |

Posted - 18 Jul 2006 : 22:27:29 You can get it, plus its expansion pack, on Amazon for almost 20 bucks. (There're used copies cheaper than that, though.) But you can probably get it for cheaper elsewhere.
Despite being rather old, its Amazon sales rank still seems pretty high. |

Posted - 18 Jul 2006 : 22:18:29 Of course! My will is always just fine. It's just my body that gives out after a couple days of being on high-doses of Adderall with little food or sleep.... Ouch.
Anyway, I'll still try to get my hands on BG II. I'm sure I can pick it up cheap somewhere, right? It's not a new game. |

Precisely! Sleep is for the weak-willed, after all. |

Posted - 18 Jul 2006 : 21:37:45 Aha. Well, maybe I'll have to pick it up sometime..
Not that I'll ever have time, with 3 physics classes, linear algebra, latin poetry, being yearbook editor, physics events organizer, trying to work out every day, running one RPG, playing in another..

Posted - 18 Jul 2006 : 21:34:34 Erm, no. What you played was Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Or the sequel of that. Whatever the case, the proper BG2 has never been ported to the XBox.
The one I'm talking about is Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. It's in the same vein as the first game, except with much better dialogue, more interactive NPCs, and many, many other improvements. |
| GothicDan |
Posted - 18 Jul 2006 : 21:26:20 Never played BG2, but BG1 only mildly amused me, so I never got 2.
Well, I played BG2 on the X-Box.. The one that had the Moon Elven Necromancer and the Drow Monk? Yeah, we know how many Drow there are on the surface, let alone Drow MONKS.. Cough.
Is that the same one? |

Posted - 18 Jul 2006 : 21:18:38 PS:T is good. :)
You didn't care for BG2? |
| GothicDan |
Posted - 18 Jul 2006 : 20:32:28 I played Oblivion.. Once.
And hated it.
But the only video game that really caught my full attention was Planescape: Torment. |
| Winterfox |
Posted - 18 Jul 2006 : 19:46:00 Nice how you didn't acknowledge things like the absolutely brilliant AI and the scaled monsters and the dialogue system and the personality-void NPCs.
But, hey, if you're into that kind of thing, more power to you. I'm not going to get in the way of a masochist. Perhaps you'd be happier playing MMORPGs? |

Posted - 18 Jul 2006 : 17:55:22 Oblivion... not have a concrete plot? I think you spent waaaaaay too much time doing the side quests. Morrowind I might agree with, but simply put Oblivion has a plot and that's one of the reasons it's doing so well. |

Oblivion is exactly what next generation RPG is all about.
What, horrible scaled system where monsters level up with you (which is a royal pain in the backside), a Wikipedia-esque system of dialogue (and therefore NPCs have no personalities whatsoever, apart from a select few)? Idiotic AI where you can walk up to a dinner, backstab somebody into unconsciousness... only to have the NPC get up again, sit back down and continue eating as if nothing's wrong?
If that's your idea of next-gen RPG... then, uhm, no. I'll stick with Obisidian, thanks. KotOR2 may have been a mess, but it's a far more enjoyable mess than Oblivion or Morrowind. (And it's got things like... a concrete plot and NPCs with actual (!!!) personalities. Y'know, trivialities like that.) |

Yes, WotC may be game designers, but they don't design electronic entertainment. |

Posted - 17 Jul 2006 : 04:45:11 Except that it will suck because of the track record of the people many responsible for NWN2, Obsidian. The Black Isle, Bioware doesn't want to do it, leftovers I like to think of them as.
Oblivion is exactly what next generation RPG is all about. I can NOT wait till Bioware's new 360 rpg, Mass Effect.

| FridayThe13th |
Posted - 16 Jul 2006 : 03:38:58 Yeah, Oblivion is on fire.
The Wizards response to Oblivion would probably be NWN2, which will be immensly popular consitering the huge success of NWN. |

Well WotC isn't really in the actual game making business, they are desgners.
Designers of what? Games? Really they still have enough round table influence to look eye to eye with the publishers and ask them if they want to make 50 million dollars. |
