I'd like to know about some of the higher level area of effect spells for mages & clerics. Or any area of effect spell, for that matter- but I'm really curious about the higher level ones. Can anyone help me please?

BAck when i played 2ed games. Death Knights of Krynn, Eye of the Beholder series. Hillsfar etc games.

I would tend to use fireball for crowd control, i disliked using lightning bolt as it always came back. Then i progressed to the delayed action fireball. A fireball with attitude. CLoud spells are handy also, cloudkill. Also never forget the low level spells that can save your butt, entangle. Slows the enemy so you can pelt them with long range weaponry, fore they get close.

So that's what it means.
I've never really understood all the dices- my dad has so many that I get confused easily. Don't worry about how much you know about certain things. I'm sure that everyone here has an area that their knowledge is a little...thinner than other subjects (I don't mean that meanly or disrespectfully to anyone here & I apologise if it offends anyone)
My DM mainly is very relaxed in what spells I use- because I play with people that either have no clue what FR is (unthinkable isn't it?) or just smile & nod when I talk about some high level spell that murders everyone in the surrounding area.

PnP- Pen and paper, as in the actual game with dice and so forth.

Sorry, but for 2e, my knowledge has lapsed a bit... more than a bit, in fact. I am sure some of the folk around here that still use that system could be far more helpful than I.

However, just flip through the spells section of hte players handbook sometime, and look for destructive sounding spells. Other than that... it is all about what of the sourcebooks you have, and what your DM will allow from them.

(In order of responces)
Capn Charlie: Normally I'm on AD&D
Wood Elf Ranger: Thank-you very much, I don't normally play Druids, Bards & Clerics- so it would have taken me ages to find them- thank-you once again
Bookwyrm: Because I don't have all the FR related games (and they don't all work on my old computer) so I was asking people to help me out of the goodness of their hearts to help me fill in the blanks that would take me a long time to do by myself
Alaundo: Thank-you, my point exactly
Winterfox: I don't know what PnP means (sorry), but thank-you for the spells.

Well then, for arcane spells (uh, with ToB in mind -- and if it's PnP we're talking about, then you shouldn't have asked in the Computer Software section), you can't go wrong with Horrid Wilting, Comet and Dragon's Breath.

Well met

I believe Aleta_Delryn is refering to spells from Baldur's Gate II etc, Bookwyrm.

You said high lvl so here are the most powerful ones I can think of.

Druid: Storm of Vengeance 9th lvl.

Bard: Greater Shout 6th lvl.

Wizard/Sorcerer: Meteor Swarm 9th lvl.

Cleric: Earthquake 8th lvl.

Well... what system of the game do you use? AD&D and 3e DnD are not exactly known for their compatability.

However, for 3e, dependant on level, it is hard to get better than the old standbys: Fireball and Lightning Bolt. At 3rd level, they are relatively eas to come by.

For a controlled situation, fireball is best, with it's wide spread, but in more limited circumstances, Lightning bolt is your friend... such as if being pursued down a narrow tunnel by guards/goblins/whatnot.

Any game- I don't really mind
I just am trying to find a good spell to use for a situation that my friends & I are in (we DM for each other at school & we need to be able to kill these fungis that hold us & then summon weird bugs to eat us. But I just need any area of effect spells, so I can have an option for future games)

From what game? BG2 + ToB?
