Posted - 30 Nov 2002 : 21:50:13 So I picked up PoR:Ruins for about $13 US.. and I know not alot of people like it, but I'm fairly interested in it.. got it second hand at Electronic Boutique... got a problem though.. 1 of my characters actually went to -10 just after getting into the dugeon.. not sure how.. she was full then got hit by an orc leader..and the fight lasted maybe 3 rounds after that and she was dead.. he must have done like 22 dmg to her..anywho.. the peopl ein the stump won't heal her.. so I started poking around and I can't find one cheat, or save game editor , that could bring her back to life.. is there anyway for me to ressurect her? or at least dump her and get a new party member? (most second hand games at EB don't come with manuals unfortunately)

I'm particularly interested in what sourcebook I can find the rules for players getting shoved into solid walls by orcs and getting stuck there, even though they can still cast spells. If they'd have only put in an emergency method to killing off your own characters....... |

And how many other FR games have you played beyond 10 minutes then my dear Rad?

Posted - 23 May 2003 : 08:50:59 I actually enjoyed this game - as a minor diversion from other more interesting things I was doing when I played it.
I did find that several of the programming bugs crept into the game code at the most inappropriate moments (and as somebody who has helped to design a few games, I know how hard they are to eliminate sometimes), but still it did have some high points. I thought the graphics were good, and I felt the storyline was stable but probably needed a little refinement in order to keep people interested in reaching the end of the game.
The mechanics were all wrong, nobody ever really denies that, but several people I know who played the game and didn't play D&D found that they wanted to know more about the world this game was based on and the rules as well, so maybe it did have some benefits in bringing people into the D&D/FR flock, even if it was underneath the banner of the bad mechanics of the game.
  Oh well...
  Good learning...

A friend told me he read that the first development team quit (or something like that) midway throuhg. It had to be transferred to a whole new team. That's not such a good way to develop software.
I think there were itching to get it outbefore NwN, so they could be the first 3e CRPG. You're right (again, damn you), they should have held release until it was ready. Now they've got a huge black eye in the CRPG community, in my opinion. I know I won't be buying their next game unless I know for sure it's stable, which means it'll probably be in the $5 bin by that time. |

                Posted - 19 Apr 2003 : 20:56:37 I'm dragging up an old thread here.
I think PoR is best suited to multiplayer, as much as the BG/IwD games are best suited to single-player. It is truly turn-based. Thsi makes it excrutiatingly tedious in single player, but it comes close to simulating PnP rounds than the BG/IwD games. I've never played NwN multiplayer |

Posted - 02 Dec 2002 : 15:53:14 after some more heavy searching (not sure why I didn't find this website the first time around) I found a site with a savegame editor on it for poR, tried it out, works fine, if you resurrect a dead player thouhg (or one below 0) it will move them out of your party and you'll have to have them join up again. http://teamchlorine.tripod.com/ |

Posted - 30 Nov 2002 : 23:42:45 Well, I bought Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor used at Electronics Boutique, too (what a coincedence!). However mine came with a manual. I tried to find how to get rid of a character in your party to answer your question but I couldn't find it in the manual. I don't know how to resurrect a character either but might I suggest that you just load the game if you saved it before the battle or just find another NPC to replace your character (I think a dead character disappears from your party eventually). |
