Atari. For one, anyway. |

Posted - 19 Aug 2004 : 00:38:15 I'm not in favour of a BG III, as far as I'm concerned the series is over, the story is written and where exactly do you go from the end of TOB? You're far too powerful for anything to present a real challenge. It's also not going to be made by Bioware as they're working exclusively on their own intellectual property at the moment, including the interesting sounding Dragon Age (okay, so I've been a Bio forums regular for far too long). I just fear a BG III wouldn't have the same feel or even be part of the series but in name. I'm not sure who currently posesses the licence for FR computer games, but NWN2 has recently been announced, as has been mentioned in another thread. |

Posted - 17 Aug 2004 : 19:24:15 Bioware, or whoever holds the rights to make games in the FR setting should just forget the Baldur's Gate name and create a new series with a new name e.g Waterdeep, Cormyr. The new series would still be done in vein of BG but with new name, setting, characters, plotline etc...

As for FO3, Bathesda (known for the Elder Scrolls series -- Daggerfall, Arena, Morrowind, etc) will be making it. |

Posted - 16 Aug 2004 : 20:38:49 I was so excited by the title of this topic. I thought maybe BG3 would be coming out or I just missed the memo on it's coming out. Then I found out the truth. I'm so crushed! This is worse than the time I found out what happened to my "pet" ducks I had when I was 5.
Oh cruel world . . .I must leave for now . . .I have to mourn the loss of BG3 . . .and my ducks(again). . . |

"The Orange County Register reports that California labor investigators have shut down the publisher--something CEO Herve Caen disputes... (source:gamespot.com)
Less than a day after CEO Herve Caen said Interplay was "still here," the publisher has apparently been shut down by the State of California.
The Orange County Register's Tamara Chuang reported late Friday that California's Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Labor Standards Enforcement forced the Irvine, CA-based developer-publisher of Fallout to suspend operations.
The closure followed a snap inspection of Interplay's offices by investigators, who found the company was without workers compensation insurance and had not paid employees. According to officials, there were 14 staffers on-site Friday during the inspection, and 79 still on Interplay's payroll--down nearly 40 since their mid-April financial statements.
The labor officials' visitation was prompted by complaints by seven Interplay workers who claimed their wages had gone unpaid. Dean Fryer, spokesman for the California Labor Commissioner, told the Register, "An employer has responsibilities when they open a business. The responsibilities include proper and timely payment of wages. It includes providing workers compensation coverage in case there are injuries. If the employer cannot accommodate those basic issues of doing business, we cannot allow employees to work."
As a penalty for its infractions, Interplay was fined $1,000 for each employee on the payroll for a total of $79,000. This sum is in addition to the $179,000 it already owes the state in back taxes and the $432,000 in unpaid rent it owes its landlord, Arden Realty, who is reportedly on the verge of evicting the company. In addition, it is being sued for $156,000 in back Baldur's Gate royalties by BioWare. As of part of its mid-April financial statements, Interplay declared it only had $1.2 million in cash on hand.
Despite the increasingly daunting scale of Interplay's difficulties, Caen brushed them off. "I hope to have that [insurance] back by Monday or Tuesday," he told the Register optimistically. Caen also had the esprit to question the semantics of Chuang's article. "The company has not shut down. [The state] cant do that. It can only let me not let employees work," he said.
In addition to breaking the closure news, Chuang also confirmed that Interplay employees had not been paid for over a month, had no health insurance, and had been told to remove their belongings from the building due to a looming lockout by Arden.
Still, some of the Interplay staffers at the office on Friday held out a more genuine sense of hope than their employer. "The reason I stick around is that Im a diehard loyalist and I love the people I work with," IS manager Steve Jobes told the Register. "If there is any sliver of hope that Interplay may someday turn around I want to be there to see it." |

Seriously, all may not be lost, some day we might see the much desired FO3 and BG3. Someday, it is possible.
I know that if I could buy the infinity engine, and release games using it I would.
But then again my baboon ranch fell through too, so I amy not be such a good example. |

Posted - 08 Jun 2004 : 18:23:51 OOOOH, What a catchy title. I just happen to love RPG's that bring you right into the world, specially if it's faerun. Good music, epic themes and rememberable characters are definitly the three main keys. I heard about this game called dragon age that sounds cool. O yeah, defintly a wide selection of options, spells, weapons, and definitly scary creatures. I just loved finding the steel golems in games like Icewind dale because they were *huge* and hard as hell to kill. I just love that kind of setting, and mystical and stuff. Like Neverwinter nights was cool, but i never got a true feeling of faerun. It was becaus if they added any more stuff, it would lag kill people, and they used tilesets, which means eerything is the same. I like cities being unique and Monsters being BIG. The monsters were all about your height in NWN. O well, but Baldurs gate was definitly kick ass. If they made a third one I would piss my pants. not really, but be realllyllll excited.!!!!!! I really agree with you, i'm a cape and sword defender of the infinity engine for the role playing games. I played neverwinter nights and i really prefer the baldur's gate, tales of the sword coast and shadows of amn and throne of bhaal engine. I think that only the temple of elemental evil, actually i don't know if they use the same engine, can struggle with bg.
I've got NWN and its expansions, and I keep coming back to BG (BG II specifically). I don't care that it's all sprites and 2-D; there's a charm to the design that isn't in NWN (all different gems, potion bottles and magic items appeal to my "oooh, pretty!" side). But the biggest draw is the NPCs, and the interactions with them. NWN is very...quiet.
Last of all, I love getting to the point where Anomen thinks and people die. |

OR at least "sweet!". Either way though, I am greatly dissapointed. I thought the disbanding of Black ISle was the greatest blow to the industry since, well, ever. I just thought I was saddened by the crushed dreams brought about by never seeing the glory of Fallout 3, but now I just want to cry.
I was quite prepared for it to be a game that was using the BG title to let people know it was inb the same vein(like dark alliance), but I still must say I am greatly dissapointed.
I really prefferred the infinity Engine to the NWN engine in some ways, many ways in fact. I still think that with tweaks and a graphics refit it could be the definitive platform for the realms for another few years.
Too bad. Too bad. IF I ever get my hands on the people responsible for this betrayel of gamer trust I will do not noce things to them. Not nice things at all...

Well I wouldn't know a Spanish take on it - but I was referring more to Seven Gates, than to Aznarr. Seven Gates sounded sort of Planescape-ey and gave me images of that many-levelled Keep in BGII: Thone of Bhaal (I can't remember it's name). The Keep wasn't the best bit of BG by a long shot - but it had some of the best scenery and graphics.
And if I got this right, and you meant Aznarr was the same president who lost the Spanish election because of his covering-up of the train bombs, then maybe you're right about Aznarr not being appropriate.
Except, maybe, as a pompous and thick demon villain. Oh and ugly - he'd have to be ugly. Achem.
A pomposous and moustached demon
Let's leave him alone. The name seven gates is nice to me, too. I'm really looking forward to put my hands in another baldur's gate game!!!!!!! |

Seven Gates of Aznarr? I'd never heard the title before. Damn it - its a nice one too.
I'm shocked to read Atari is still considering - nay, "planning" - to make another BG game. From the comments of the (flung far and wide) designers of 'Jefferson' (including Sean K. Reynolds, http://www.gamebanshee.com/news/static/EplkEVVZAlVXhuIYNq.php) that things would be static for role-play-centric gaming for years to come.
But if this turns out to be the case, my day is made:
Seven gates of Aznarr is not a nice title Sorry about this, but as spanish i am i would prefer they change the title of the game. I donn't know if you got me, but it will be funny if they launch this game with this title in spain. As the name of the salt president of the government was Aznar. And that's the last politic intervention i will ever make. |

Posted - 19 May 2004 : 17:02:07 'Seven' in the title!quote: The number "seven" commemorates the original seven players in the 'Mark II' original Realms campaign PC party (the Knights of Myth Drannor). I've been slipping stuff into published Realmslore all along, just for fun (but, of course, the number "seven" has been conidered mystical in the West [real world] for some time now, as in "sixes and sevens," so it fits a lot of the oaths quite handily. This latter use began in 1975, in the 'Mark I' PC party (the Company of Crazed Venturers) when Victor Selby [one of the original players] started to jokingly use "seven" in place of real obscenities when his characters used profanity, thus making the word 'seven' equal the word 'censored.'
That's from an Ed Greenwood post to REALMS-L that doesn't seem to be archived anywhere. I fear it's not deliberate. |

Posted - 16 May 2004 : 19:01:44 Before the suit from Atari, Interplay had enough cash on hand to extend the BG license for 4 years for both PC and console. At that time, BGIII was nearly completed, and DA(2, I believe)was nowhere near as finished. However, Interplay decided not to extend the PC licence, and instead extended the console license for 8 years. Then most of Black Isle jumped ship to Obsidian-there's no chance BI's BGIII will get released now. |

Posted - 16 May 2004 : 11:42:10 I'm hoping that's not the case
It might just mean that Interplay wont be making it. Atari (the ones who are suing Interplay in that article) own the actual rights to the franchise and according to this article, they are not abandoning it, it just might mean that Interplay wont develop it.
Check it out here: IGN |

Posted - 16 May 2004 : 02:15:11 Cancelled. This covers some of the problems, if I'm not mistaken. It was never a true sequel to BGII-as observed in the introduction to ToB, that was meant to be. Black Isle was developing it, but Interplay struck down a near finished project.
