Does the Red Wizard, Edwin make a good addition to your party in Shadows of Amn?. This is the first time that I've played through the game, and since Thay and the Red Wizards are one of my favorite regions and powergroups of the Realms, I really want to have him join my group.

But is he an effective PC?. What are his main strengths and weaknesses?.

For the most part, he was always apart of my team! Good choice.

Indeed, although the banter between Jan and Viconia is classic. Now there's a gnome who'll go places... Jan Jansen's the greatest... Talking for endless hours about the most pointless things that have nothing to do with anything really.... ... Actually I was a bit dissapointed disappointed that there were less Evil characters in it... NPC wise? The killed off my favorites Zhents, Imprisoned the Megalomaniacal Cyricist, Butchered the thief, and there's no sign of Shar-teel... a real pity... Korgan, Edwin, Viconia and ??????? (No spoilers on who here) But I would have liked The Insane Zhent and his bloodthirsty halfling... ALthough ??????? is a worthy addition

DeVir . . . So, she's a member of the supposedly destroyed drow House DeVir of Menzoberranzan. Weren't they all wiped out (excluding Alton) in Homeland?.
Winterfox Posted - 15 Apr 2004 : 07:19:14
Viconia De'Vir is a she. :) And an evil she, at that (no moralistic drow angst here, kthxbai), though you can alter that if you romance her.

Viconia . . . I haven't encountered him yet. Although I remember reading something about the character. He's a drow isn't he?.
Winterfox Posted - 15 Apr 2004 : 06:24:36
I meant that, yes, Edwin's definitely a haughty little Red Wizard. When you first meet him in BG2, I believe his line is, "I am Edwin Odeisseron. You simians may refer to me merely as 'sir', if you prefer a less... syllable intensive workout." The line's voiced, and arrogance fairly drips from it. (In BG1, I recall him saying, somewhere: "Elminster this, Elminster that. Give me a thousand year and a pointy hat and I'll kick his arse.")

Do pick him up. He's fun and absolutely hilarious (see his side-quest; Edwina, indeed). And his banter with Viconia, among others, is priceless.

Did I miss something?.

I don't quite understand the last portion of your post Winterfox.
Winterfox Posted - 15 Apr 2004 : 04:34:41
Does he ever. "Simian." Bwa.
Lady Kazandra Posted - 15 Apr 2004 : 02:53:56
Does he portray himself as the typical (and very superior) Red Wizard?. I would assume he would carry himself with a certain degree of arrogance.
The Cardinal Posted - 14 Apr 2004 : 21:15:16
Indeed. Edwin is the be-all and end-all of spellcasters (arcane) in the game. Tonnes of spell slots, Great banter with other party members, and his personal side quest.
Look to the graveyards...
Winterfox Posted - 14 Apr 2004 : 20:38:01
Edwin is the best mage in the game, period. No other mage (not counting sorcerers) can cast as many spells per day as he does, thanks to his invoker bonus and the amulet he wears. The only tradeoff is that he can't wear, say, the Amulet of Power, but that's hardly the point anyway. His strengths and weaknesses are fairly standard mage-type.
