Hey, anyone have any good sites for downloading just a lot of good small jpegs (preferably color)? I was thinking I might delve through wizards sites for the picture collections they put in their products, but I know that's usually like 2 character pictures and then 2 dozen pictures of creatures, weapons, buildings, etc... |

ah, and for anyone else using herolabs that happens to still have the old etools program installed.... I just realized, its portraits directory is full of stuff to use (in case it helps someone else). |

yeah, I was just looking for a quick way to get a LOT of images fast. I went ahead and did a one-month subscription to D&D insider and downloaded all the dragon and dungeon art galleries (and other stuff) for the last 4 years. Now I just need some free photo album software (would have figured I already had such on my pc.... guess not). |

Even ACDSee PicaView is pretty good. Just right-click on image and select Save As JPG (or whatever). GIMP, PhotoShop, etc are professional-grade tools stuffed full of advanced options ... but they involve a learning curve and are heavy overkill for this simple requirement.
Sorry to derail the topic. My intent was to say that you could basically use any image from any source you like, even if limited by the format required by some particular program. |

However, Office does have the Microsoft Office Picture Manager, which allows you to do a lot of stuff.
I understand that GIMP is a popular bit of freeware for manipulating images, too.
I've used Irfanview, more than once, for resizing or renaming bunches of pics at once. |

You can use all sorts of free software to edit images. Cut&Paste, crop, rotate, resize, recolour, etc. Almost all of these programs will let you save/export/convert the image as a jpg, jpeg, bmp, whatever. Windows Paint and Photo Editor, of course, are pretty much the only such software which doesnt support these basic features. |

WotC used to do a monthly character portraits thing. Some of the portraits were really good, some not so much...
And much to my surprise, they're still there! PC Portraits Online Archives
Some people have found some good stuff on the deviantart site, but I myself haven't the patience to sort thru all the chaff there. |
