hmm yes, not quite sure if anyone else has heard of this or posted of this but a different company is delving into Faerun with R.A. Salvatore helping out in creating this new pc game called Forgotten Realms. The company that is heading this project is the same company that created Lord of the Rings:The Two Towers for PC/PS2 so you can expect similar gameplay to that. anyone else heard of this news?

Winterfox, thats not my point. NOOOO, Im jsut saying, a RPG in first person style, the style of Jedi Academy, you know, first person (well kinda, you know waht i mean,) I know it wasnt an RPG. But an RPG set in Faerun with that kind of first person style would be really cool. And I would hope that the game would be made with every town unique, unlike NWN which does get really repetive, every city and castle are the same....blah.
EcThelion Posted - 21 Feb 2004 : 18:54:25
I ruled through the entire game with Drain & the two light-side shields. Nothing could hurt me.

Sounds fun no?> Next to virtual reality...

Except that Jedi Academy's not a RPG, in any way, shape, or form. A Morrowind-esque game would be better, maybe, but with more attention to detail and less energy devoted to the overrated, so-called "non-linearity" that leaves NPCs devoid of personalities and wilderness devoid of any real contents.

I enjoyed Jedi Academy. Somewhat. But recognized that the singleplayer is rather mediocre, and the lightsaber battles -- any battle, singleplayer or multiplayer -- were awfully... luck-dependent. Click click, if you're lucky and click fast enough, your opponent gets dismembered. If not, then by golly, you're so going to get cut in halves. Somehow. I defeated the final boss, Tavion/Ragnos, by sheer accident. (Boss throws sword, I jump to avoid, land behind boss, pivot, and click attack in hope of getting in a lucky hit. Wham, Tavin/Ragnos goes down and cutscene plays! Which leaves me scratching my head and muttering, "What...? Did I even damage the woman?")

Then again, I played it through just to hear Jennifer Hale's voice. {/fangirl}

I really hope a company takes the initiative to create a splendid forgotten realms RPG. Neverwinter was a hit. But Now, maybe soon, with new technology and what not, we can get a more indepth game with each room and city with its own feel. It got kinda boring having every inside tower and castle and inn the same, and every cavern the same, and all that. Then again, a first person type RPG in Faerun would be fun, kinda like Jedi Academy, its just that your a warrior or mage or the million other classes and in faerun instead of ,,,tatooine..?

Ack, it looks like its going to be an action game rather than a real RPG... its sad that there isnt any really killer RPG's coming out in the near future...

ahh well just more time to read FR books...

I gave a review of this on the wizards beaord before coming over here. I got the game magazine game informer which talks about it in a 6 page article, not the best one I have seen. Out of five pages in the game they talk about it for three paragraphs so not much info out there about it.

The main story seems to be this. Blackstaff a long time ago imprisoned two warring generals, one a slaad the other a githyanki inside a blood stone. Later they were freed and now plague the lands and it is up to you the heroes to find the pieces of the blood stone and put it back together. You have three characters a rogue, wizard and a fighter and that is it that was my disappointment with BG dark alliance, it will be the same with this game. The one thing I like about the realms is all the different characters and classes that are available, specially the cleric class, literally dozens of gods and goddesses and they aren’t used except as bad guys, erg!

The graphics look nice and all but I could care less about that, same with sound. The story seems good from what little they talk about it what gets me is the fighting system. I have never liked a game where I have to multitask while playing it. I like to sit there and enjoy the story not try and remember which character I am at that moment, who is next etc.

The developer is not EA, it is called stormfront studios they developed the first lords of the rings game, then EA moved on giving the second game to another studio. It is published by Atari and will likely be good. But like I said the fighting system is what gets me.

Ack, if its got an FR logo on the box then ill have no choice but to buy it, Winterfox

Is any more information available on this? I havent heard a thing about it. Any official announcements anywhere that someone could post here? **said rad

Yes, I have the same deal. I just love Forgotten Realms sooo much. All this newss Is, I can't even believe how depressing it is. But THen Again, I think there is a future for forgotten realms and that one day it will become a virtual reality game. This isn't fiction because I have talked to a neurologist (brain sergeon) Who said it would happen and she had talked to others that agreed. With the new advances in brain neuro tech. , we can stimulate brain cells. Well IM not going to go into detail, But If we could have a dot.hacked like thing or better for FAERUN, it would be godly. I Would have to have the company make a game in Faerun where you start out as a level one person in a city of your choosing of birth and you acutally live in faerun and its practicle and real. There isn't level advance ment, but just skill. If you were a mage, and found a scroll and read it and scribed it, then you would have it, even if you were (Technically level 1) and found a wail of the banshee scroll, gods know how, and wrote it, then you could use it...well maybe its more complicated than that. Sooo wonderful. But I would makesure Faerun was incorporated.
Also I must buy everything with FR logo on it. lol. Speak about it.

What is more original than "fetch item, kill boss, and return for reward" routine, and what is more unique than the "save the generic fantasyland from one-dimensional evil overlord" formula? Furthermore, who can resist exploring a game world where there is nothing to do but click on more monsters to slaughter them? What diversity! So fulfilling! {/sarcasm}

Pretty cinematics -- or even good mechanics -- do not a good RPG make. Dungeon Sick -- I mean Dungeon Siege -- is ample proof of that. I hesitate to even call Diablo series or Dungeon Sick RPGs. They are just action games with RPG elements.

Yea, good said!
And whats the deal with doing the game four times anyway?
EcThelion Posted - 12 Feb 2004 : 15:08:06
Who said the word RPG? I jsut said that Blixxard make lots of ownage games.

And I was referring to Warcraft.

Oh well. We've still got Blizzard. They may not be into FR, but their pretty good anyway.

No ha cant do that, and if they make a movie Regis probably will be to tall. And Cattie Brie will probably be played by Britney Spears or another wannabe actress.

What, Drizzt's not doing that already?

Me, I'm getting pretty burned out with fantasy, which is why my current source of fluff reading equals be Star Wars.

Besides, this game'll be a beat-em-up. So, by definition: pretty graphics, no story. Why'd you want Bioware to handle it? *shrugs* Eh, I guess I'll be looking at Obisdian Entertainment's next project (unannounced, but people speculate strongly that it'll be KotOR2. In that case, whee!) and the upcoming Beyond Divinity for CRPG fun.

Depressing!? I think I will take my own life soon. I quess it isent long before they make a hollywood film of Forgotten Realms where everyone has glassy eyes(Like in passions) and all they do in the battles is postiture. An Drizzt probably can do a tripple spin up down while firing a bow and killing orcs with his sabers.

Zaknafein Posted - 11 Feb 2004 : 23:34:03
*sigh* oh how i wish Bioware could have headed this project..but it just isnt possible anymore. depressing really if you ask me.

Thanks for the links too.

Then again. In the end we are all mindless slaves to uncontrollable forces, anyway. So why not play a Hack 'n Slash if you want to???

It's just another beat-em-up in the same vein as Dark Alliance and D&D Heroes. I've heard that Stormfront's The Two Towers game is fairly good, but its RPG record consists of, well, PoR2.

I believe that Drizzt is going to be a "secret character" for the game.

It's just another hack'n'slash. So it's ignorable.
