Posted - 04 Jun 2003 : 20:32:40 Last night and again a little while this morning, I was "in the ancient past" of some ruins near Fort Ilkar (Chapter three of the single player "Official Game"). I could make neither heads nor tails from two out of three riddle rooms, and today am having doubts that I understood the third one, after all.
I expected to be able to bring forward from back in the past some items to use in the Riddle Rooms. Colored Powders, for instance, and maybe colored stones as well. The Alchemical Apparatus Table in the Smoke Riddle room ofthe past was empty. I found no way that I could "use" any of the color pools in the Light Riddle Room.
The worst was the Sound Riddle. There didn't seem to be a view angle from which I could watch the sprite when she rang the gongs, and if the notes were supposed to be familiar somehow, I certainly didn't recognize anything. I'm really and seriously tone-deaf, though. If anyone else spotted a geographical or spatial relationship amoung the four gongs and remembers it, I hope you answer before I give up on that particular Word of Power and use DM_Create on it.
(Added in an edit) I just tried (again) at getting a view of all four gongs at once, from either end of the gong room. I tried from the door, but had to go to the other end anyway because she was down there, so that wasn't useful. She took off behind me. So I waited until she finished. Tried sending her around again. Still can't see enough to repeat anything. - -

Only the gongs are(were) still "elusive" by today. quote:

Today I'm not concerned about the Lights or Smoke Riddle Rooms in the ruins. quote:

Over at Bioware's own forums, I had an answer in the thread
http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=220396&forum=43
But it isn't in a form that actually sinks into my tired old brain:
> This is a hard one because I don't know what angle you are looking at it from, but if you go to the back of the room and face the gongs this may help. The pixie should start with the one on you left(1), she then goes to the one on your right(2), next angle straight to the other left hand corner(3), then right to the other side(4), back to the left to (3)and you have (5), the angle to the right hand corner to (2) and you have (6), then back straight down right side to (4) and you have (7), and the angle back to (1) the starting position and you have (8).
> 5 and 3 7 and 4
> 1 and 8 2 and 6
> Did that make sense?
> Ashnara
I know that if anyone anywhere has ever used map references about the gongs, I could follow through without difficulty (you know, name the room corners NW, NE, SE, SW, and then enter those four eight times in the sequence that the sprite goes through, that I can't seem to get a good look at).
Is there a walkthrough somewhere with that kind of guide? I'm about to use the DM Client and just bring in a newly-created Word of Power in order to get past this conceptual problem.
(Added this part in Edit) An hour or less later: I found this
Neverwinter Nights - Reference Guide
Revision 4.02.10.18
by Duncan Clay duncanclay@msn.com
His spelling is strange.
But after correcting that, he wrote this about the "hongs" (that's the way he spelled them throughout), which I've corrected:
There are 4 gongs in the room: North-west gong (4) North-east gong (1) South-west gong (3) South-east gong (2) The right combination is 2,1,3,4,3,1,4,2.
That works for me!
