I just finished The Ring of Winter and I was very impressed. I have on question though. Is there any other books that continue off this book? I just think the ending would of been different. In the end, Cimber find the fabled ring, kills off all the bad guys, and gets the girl in the end. He still has the ring!!! I just think the whole deal with Shandril and her spellfire will be nothing compared to the problems Cimber's going to have when the word gets out that he has THE RING. It's just to powerful to be walking around with. Now I thought the ending would go something like this...........War breaks out, Skuld does something to make the earth quake. A huge crack splits the earth and many, friend and foe alike, die from falling in it's endless depths. Cimber hanging on the edge with one hand. Sanda hanging on for dear life on a ledge just below him. Some how (I don't know how) the Ring of Winter slips off his hand lands on the very ledge Sanda's hanging from. Another quake is coming any second and Cimber has to make a choice. Save the ring that he has been looking for almost all his life, or save the women he loves.........Well he save Sanda just in time and the Ring tumbles down it endless depths, lost forever. |

Thanks for the insite James. I wish there were more of your work to bless the forgotten realms novels down the road, but I'll take what I can get. |

Thanks for all the kind words about Ring. I really enjoyed working on it, and of all my Realms books, it's my wife favorite.
I have, at various times, proposed other books involving Artus. A prequel would have had more information about the quest Cyric and Kelemvor undertook for the Ring. The sequel I proposed would have involved several other characters from my Realms novels--Gwydion and Rinda from Prince of Lies, General Vrakk, etc, etc. (There are lots of little ties between my Realms book--Artus rents a room from one of the characters from Crusade and so on.)
As has been noted, the burden of the Ring is an incredibly heavy one, and I certainly saw it being tough for Artus in the aftermath of Ring. I'm happy with the ending of Ring, though. Artus struggled so long for the Ring, he deserved a respite.
There were other stories with Artus--in some of the Realms anthologies. But it seems unlikely there will be any further Artus stories or novels; WotC has the Realms line going in other directions.

I loved that book, but sometimes books are better as "one-offs". That's not to say I wouldn't read a sequel, though.  |

I really think they should of continued on with the story. Gods Man, in the wrong hands ( which it can easily be done) it can detroy all of faerun as we know it with a single thought! |

I recall a couple of references, after the novel, that pertains to current events. The book was great and a sequel would have been nice. |

I do seem to recall that Cyric and Kelemvor were the only two survivors of a party that attempted to recover the ring.
If Jim Lowder ever gets round to another realms novel, THAT would be a tale I'd like to read. |
