At this point I have read just about every book written for the Forgotten Realms. Now, onw set of book has elluded me thus far. These book, as I understand it take place int he Moonsheas, though I never did find out what the books, and the trilogy were entitled. So, if anyone out there can help me out and tell my the titles of these books, it would help a lot. |

Really, what strikes me is how much good writing is out there for a shared world. One of the pitfalls it that writiers can really screw you and the world up (and they have in some cases) but for a large part most of the Forgotten Realms books come out preety damn good. The good list is long, the bad list is short...er. |

yes i have read it... there aren't many left of the FR (non comics) that i haven't read... i'm currently reading my 118th FR novel (it's Ring of WInter... and not including the times i've re-read some novels)... so far all i have left.. I still have yet to read the 7 sembia books (even tho they don't read straight into each other... i prefer not to start a series until i can read them all.. unless the series won't be done for years)... i have the druidhome trilogy to read (need the druid queen).. still got to read that double diamond triangle thing.. reread starlight and shadows for windwalker... and then all the new new books this year... and a few others i don't have of my collection yet (like Harpers #5.. crypt of shadowking) |

Have you had the (mis)fortune of reading The Mage in the Iron Mask from the Nobles Series?  That novel was a bit painful to finish for me, but that's really been the only Realms tome that I didn't like more than dislike. And I suppose "to each his own" definitely does apply in this case, as I thought The Lost Library of Cormanthyr was entertaining. *shrugs* |

Hmm . . . you've raised a good point, Mournblade, if inadvertantly. I had already read a lot of other Forgotten Realms books by the time I got around to visiting the Moonshaes. In particular, I'd read all of Salvatore's non-anthological FR stories (up to Passage to Dawn) and The Finder's Stone trilogy. Those are great works, and they've definately been a standard to judge by for me, though I've not really thought about it like that until now.
Probably I was too influenced in that way when I read Niles' books. He wrote them as the first Forgotten Realms books, but I didn't read them first. Maybe I should put them back in your kind of context . . . . |

I have to disagree with bookwyrm as I thought the Darkwalker on Moonshae trilogy was great. BUT this could also be due to buying them when I was a Sophomore in High School, and it was the FIRST (FINALLY) Forgotten Realms book ever. I loved it but I am not sure if it was just a function of it being Forgotten Realms. I was also not as critical about books then as I am now.

Does anything? Just kidding. Now, I didn't say The Lost Library of Cormanthor was bad, just not great. Most books I don't love fall into the middle ground, the not bad but not good area. Oh, and glaring grammer and spelling errors are a big, big, big turn-off when I read a book. Not only is it the "I paid for this" kind of thing, but also I can get rather...well, insane about the English language (After twelve years of school and six years of college I've become everything I used to hate). |

yeah... i didn't think the murder series was bad.. was just different... there aren't really any of the FR books i consider bad... just some are better than others... and some need to be re-editted a few more times to get the glaring typos and bad grammar that throws me off... |

How strange, it wasnt so long ago that a lot of people on this forum were highly praising the Murder series! Still, each to their own  Ill get around to it some day. |

Actually, I thought The Lost Library of Cormanthyr was pretty well-written. Maybe not the most spectacular of the books, but better than a lot just by plot. Mel Odom wrote it pretty well, if you ask me.
(Of course, you didn't, but as you can tell, that didn't stop me.) |

That is the main reason I have had yet to read, since I have hard little praise of them. As a point of reference I have already read The Druidhome Trilogy, but not it's predecessor. Also worth a note, I am so dedicated to completing my collection tha i actually read Murder in Cormyr, a terrible, terrible book, worse than the The Lost Library of Cormanthor in my opinion. But, as a true collector, my collection must be complete. Funny, I recently just got through reading every pieces of writing of J.R.R. Tolkien's that has been published (some of which were rather annoying to track down as well) and here I am going off on another breed of fantasy...when will it end...precioussssssssss... |

Ugh. Horrible books. Hated 'em. Read them all the way through just because they were FR (and I hoped they'd get better) but they plain tanked. I'm sure you want to complete your collection, and I admire that (really, I do -- I haven't thrown out my copies), but I'd advise you against making it a high priority. It's just not worth going out of your way. |

there are two trilogies set place in Moonshae...
The Moonshae Trilogy (Darkwalker on Moonshae, Black Wizards, and Darkwell)
and The Druidhome Trilogy which is technically a sequal trilogy to the Moonshae Trilogy (Prophet of Moonshae, The Coral Kingdom, and The Druid Queen) |
