Hmm. Currently reading Evermeet (it rocks!) and I've been looking for books to read after it. I'm torn between getting some of the older books and newer ones. Mainly thinking of getting either Simbuls Gift, Tymora's Luck and Azure Bonds, seeing as I've heard plenty of good things about them. Or getting Blackstaff and Shadowbred.

Actually getting the books isn't a problem. Already checked on Ebay and Amazon for availability. Just wondering which I should pick!

All of them will be read eventually!

I was really asking to see if I should get older books before newer books. Suppose its true in the case of series like Shadowbred (which would seem to have lots of books set before it that it would help to read) but mostly I see that I should just go for the good books! So I'm going to grab Azure Bonds and Blackstaff for now. Thanks for the advice!

All of them is the simple answer, but I would recommend Azure Bonds and Blackstaff myself. I have not read Shadowbred, but people seem to like it; Tymoras luck I did not like personally, but most people do so chances are you would enjoy it.

There really isn't any reason for debate here...

'Tis all of them, of course.

Well met, Uzzy

Hmmmm, some good advice. I agree with Erik regarding Shadowbred. Buy the book forthwith, by all means, but certainly read the preceeding Cale novels beforehand.

Again, Azure Bonds is an essential read, but ye may wish to read subsequent Alias novels before Tymora's Luck.

Only Simbul's Gift is a tome which I would say ye wouldn't be missing anything by leaving until another time.

Let us know how ye get on

I'd agree with Erik, start with Azure Bonds and then read the rest of the trilogy. Blackstaff is a great stand-alone novel though, and would be where I'd suggest you turn next.

I shall echo what has been said and urge you to read all of them.

But if a suggested *order* is what you're looking for, start with Azure Bonds (which I think provides a very good opening to the Realms), finish that trilogy, then follow Wooly's advice and read Finder's Bane and then Tymora's Luck.

Shadowbred is good as a standalone start, but it's also nice to have read the other Erevis Cale books first (Shadow's Witness, Twilight Falling, Dawn of Night, Midnight's Mask).

I have not read Simbul's Gift, so I couldn't speak to that one.

Cheers

What they said all of them.
Wooly Rupert Posted - 04 Dec 2006 : 19:51:46
I can only recommend novels I've read... Azure Bonds is one of the best Realms novels around. Tymora's Luck is another awesome one. It does reference the earlier Finder's Stone Trilogy (which Azure Bonds started), but it's not necessary to have read that earlier trilogy (it does help to read Finder's Bane, though, which is the first book of the Lost Gods trilogy; Tymora's Luck is the third. The second book, Fistandantilus Returns, is a Dragginglance book that I feel can be skipped, since it does little more for the trilogy than intro a single character).

And of course, Blackstaff is a great one, too.

The other books you list, I've not read. I've heard good things about Shadowbred, though.

I'd go with all of them as well. :)

All of them.
