Posted - 31 Aug 2006 : 17:30:23 I just finished the Year of Rogue Dragons trilogy and recently read Waterdeep as well as the Last Mythal Trilogy. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to read next. Any recommendations? I'm considering moving on to Eberron now that the first trilogy is about to be complete (I hate reading only sections of a series).
For completeness here are some other books I've already read: The War of The Spider Queen series All the Drizzt novels All the Erevis Cale novels (probably my favorites) The House of Serpents Trilogy as well as a random selection of other gaming fiction. |

Posted - 03 Sep 2006 : 03:41:59 I would suggest Ed Greenwood's Spellfire, Hand of Fire, and Crown of Fire if I were you.
If you want something intense try Ghostwalker by Erik Scott de Bie. In fact the whole fighters series is excellent. |

Well met
Read not the tomes of Eberron, heavens forbid! I'd recommend The Scions of Arrabar and The Sembia Series. Also, the Fighters series have been receiving much praise.

I second that, Eberron is pretty dull compared to the Realms. The books aren't even canon.
Try reading the Elminster series, it will give you some background info on old El.
Songs and Swords is also highly recommended by some people, never read them myself but I heard they are good.
The Avatar series is cool as well.

i would say Sembia series 1st since it has everis cale's back story on how he became a cleric of Mask. While the other parts deal with the family he works for. |

Posted - 01 Sep 2006 : 13:24:00 I started my Realms experience with Avatar. With the exception of Waterdeep it was an experience that I try to forget, lore-wise it is important tho, if you count in the time of troubles... plus Prince of Lies and Crucible are great books. |

The Fighters series sounds interesting. Any book in particular? From what I understand they are self contained right?
Well met, Johnny.
The Fighters books are indeed self-contained, as are the Rogues, the Wizards, and the Priests. All 4-book series of standalones. The writing style can vary considerably, but these series share a theme, as it were.
The Cities series (which has culminated in City of Splendors: Waterdeep just this last year) is another example of this.

I recommend the Fighters and the Wizards series. And Starlights and Shadows trilogy. Ever.
I read the first two books in the Starlights and Shadows trilogy and to be honest, they didn't really impress me all that much.
The Wizards series also left me empty after the first book. I didn't like the writing at all even though the topic is among my favorites in all the realms. I just couldn't bring myself to bother with book two.
I've read at least three books in the Sembia series and those were enjoyable for the most part. I think that after finding Erevis I stopped and moved on.
