Well met

It has been brought to my attention of an interview with R.A. Salvatore, in which he stated the following:

quote:
I’ve just started writing the book for October, 2007. It’s back to Drizzt and the gang, picking up the story after The Two Swords. There’s a lot of story left to tell there. I get into trouble sometimes because Wizards of the Coast want to package all of the books trilogies or quartets or quintets or whatever, but for the Drizzt books, I don’t think of them that way. I’m just following these guys along this wonderful, winding road. There are storylines that begin and end in a single book, or go through two or three or fifteen – I just don’t know and I don’t want to know.

The full interview can be found here.

Or maybe kill Drizzt.....(just a joke *g*)

this was like the first thread i read before i joined this site way way back in the day...and its back in business....yeah i used to see nothing wrong with the drizzt books and i still dont see anything TOO wrong...i mean im still a huge fan and cant wait for his new book but i agree that all the talking about his feelings did get old after while...i mean at first it was cool because it builds the character more and you can relate more...etc...but after while it just got kind of repetitive...but yeah actually the main thing i noticed when i switched over from DL to the drizzt books that got me started on FR is that the characters never died like in DL...but yeah etc etc...whatever...oooo but hey....if they did kill off all drizzts human friends and then he ends up going with innovild....whatever that elf chicks name is that would be a pretty cool plot twist and might renew ALOT of peoples interest in the books...i mean i would be sad if all them died...cattie brie...wulfgar...bruenor....regis...etc...but hey...it might be worth the renewed plot...

Well, that's a nice hint at what might happen. Perhaps the Frost Giants will switch sides... or the sweet little trolls

Interesting trilogy title also. Transitions, anybody here have additional info on this. Additionally, cool cover

Yes, I like that cover. :)

I see the next sword slinging, dwarven accented, hero to the realms in the making.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but Colson is a girl, not a boy. Col is Elvish for 'not'.

What in the name of all the heavens does ARC mean?
laethyn Posted - 19 Mar 2007 : 23:34:43
There are a couple of people over at Bobs official messageboard talking about how much they enjoyed their ARCs. I'm keeping a close eye as I certainly don't want anything ruined for anyone. We've all been waiting a while for a new Drizzt novel! (Ahem, though I have to admit, right now, I'm eagerly awaiting any info on The Highwayman (A Corona novel) sequel!)

The Orc King: Transitions, Book I (Transitions)

Coming Fall 2007 The Orc King, book 1 in the Transitions trilogy.

Drizzt is back in this exciting new trilogy from R.A. Salvatore!

An uneasy peace between the dwarves of Mithral Hall and the orcs of the newly established Kingdom of Many-Arrows can't last long. The orc tribes united under Obould begin to fight each other, and Bruenor is determined to finish the war that nearly killed him and almost destroyed everything he's worked to build. But it will take more than swords and axes to bring a lasting peace to the Spine of the World. Powerful individuals on both sides may have to change the way they see each other. They may have to start to talk. But it won't be easy.

Talking in lieu of fighting? I mean it when I say that's something I can look foward to in a novel.

Hello-

Ah - ARCs exist? :) I may have one on the way to me then! :)
I have one of one of his earlier novels.

There are ARCs of "The Orc King?" Comments positive you say? [no spoilers please, the novel's still a long way from its September release date]
laethyn Posted - 19 Mar 2007 : 02:22:23
How can Obould die? I don't belive timeframe would allow that, as he is alive and well in the offical FRCS. That said, I've heard nothing but good from those who have gotten ARCs

I hope Obould doesn't die in the next series. :-P

I'm always excited for any new RAS-FR novel. I might have little nit-picky problems with what happens in his novels, but I have those same problems with a lot of stories in media (comic book movies, Star Wars, etc.). I'm a hopeless fanboy.

Obould had BETTER die in this new series. And it should be an embarassing defeat at the drow's hands. RAS owes us that much after 5 years of waiting for the inevitable.

Heck, I still feel cheated over the front cover of The Thousand Orcs, but that's not Salvatore's fault.

Because:

1) Not everyone is crazy for Drizzt the way you are, and...

2) "Only" one book per year? That's more than any other FR character gets. A lot more.

wow I like the way Salvatore writes and hope he NEVER changes or anybody. It's funny how people can say they are tired of Drizzt when it's only a book a year, I whish they'd come out faster. His books are highly intropsective and you never really know where everything is going. I'm glad he finally worked it in with Cattie took him long enough Now here come the half-drow kids Artemis and Jaraxle will probaly be back in the fold, from what Ive read in Road of the Patriach he seems destined to make his way back with Jaraxle and the dwarf right behind him. OH ANOTHER THING HAS EVERYBODY SEEN OR HEARD OF THE SONY READER,BOOKS ON A PDA LIKE DEVICE ALL YOUR BOOKS IN ONE PLACE

At the risk of repeating myself I'm very interested in what Obould is up to as he's currently my favorite FR character.

The title of the next novel is The Orc King (according to O-love's site), so I'm guessing we'll see what he's up to in that novel.

Thats great! I really want to know more about the whole Drizzt may be in Loths favor for betraying her but, I was not to thrilled with ending of the last sellswords book...

I think Drizzt has just about run his course (and he is one of my favorite characters, mind you) Having Salvatore branch off and develop more of his other characters would be outstanding though. Regardless, I can and will continue to read any additional Drizzt novels.
KnightErrantJR Posted - 09 Jan 2007 : 05:02:17
I'm curious about what RAS said in his recent interview on WOTC's site. It had been mentioned before that he was going to do one novel a year for WOTC, but he said in his interveiw that he is feeling really energized and he is ahead of schedule in his writing and may end up doing two a year.

This makes me wonder, does this mean he is going to step up the Drizzt novels, or does this mean that we might see a continuation of the Artemis or perhaps Jarlaxle storylines? I'll be curious to see how this turns out. Perhaps with a "guaranteed" Drizzt book every year, he might write a second book featuring, or developing, more of his supporting characters.
Charles Phipps Posted - 08 Jan 2007 : 01:36:42
Well in the case of Drizzt and company, I think it helps the Drama if we see a character emotionally invested. It doesn't have to be the case of the main villain caring about the heroes.....but it helps. Honestly, I'm mostly just surprised Drizzt and company don't seem more appalled with the bloody swath Obould has cut across the North.
Rinonalyrna Fathomlin Posted - 08 Jan 2007 : 01:23:15
Nothing wrong with that. Characters in novels don't need to formally be "arch-enemies".
