Can anyone direct me to the proper book and page of the Baba Yaga reference that Elaine made in the Starlight and Shadows books? At first I thought it was in the Windwalker, when Liriel and Fyodor were actually in Rashemen, but I am starting to think the reference might have been in one of Fyodor's stories.
I'm trying to remember if Elaine used Baba Yaga's name, a different "Realmsian" name, or just came up with a "title" but I do remember the reference to the evil witch with the chicken legged hut. Forgive me for my memory failing me at the moment, and thanks for any forthcoming help. |

Our DM ran that module as "The Dancing Hut of Tanta Hagara"  Worked really well, since she was one of the recurring arch-villains in our campaign... |

Thanks for chiming in Elaine. I was writing a "Realms" translation to the Dragon Magazine article on Kostchtchie, and in the article, James Jacobs connected Kostchtchie to Baba Yaga, so I wanted to use the proper "Realmsian" name for her when I decided to make Kostchtchie a bit more Realmsian.

"Stara Baba" is "old woman" in Polish--and a few other Slavic languages, I'm told. It does indeed refer to Baba Yaga. I'm aware of the Baba Yaga module, but most of the inspiration for this inclusion came from the many folktales.
One of the projects in my current lineup is a fantasy novel based in Slavic mythology. Definitely going to explore the Baba Yaga myths.

Baba Yaga has been around in D&D for a while... As I recall (can't check, I'm at my girlfriend's place), there was an artifact or two (prolly her hut) that was in the 1E DMG, and I remember there was an entire 2E module dedicated to her (I still like the cyborg ghost that was in that one!).
Elaine's reference was pretty dead-on, though, and kept with most of the lore -- D&D and otherwise -- that I've read about Baba Yaga. |

Nevermind, found it. Page 217. She used the name Stara Baba . . . I'm all set now. Thank goodness for Amazon's search inside function . . . my brain wasn't processing information well enough when I was going page by page looking for the reference on my own. |
