I'm looking for novels with lore, who manage to flesh-out the realm well. Though not a must, I'd like to read about anything with dwarfs, knights, clerics or paladins of Lathander/Ilmater/Kelemvor/Helm/Torm/Tyr... that would be great. Characters, and characters development, are more important to me than the plot.
If anyone has a suggestion, please, hit me! |

The IWD books were the first I read, myself. :) I don't believe those are the books that *must* be read first, but that's what I did, and I turned out fine. |

As for me - i started my FR readinbg experience with the the Icewind dale trilogy. Was a great book. There you will find a very interesting dwarven character. he is no cleric or the like but a dwarf through and through - Bruenor Battlehammer.
By the way, I think the series is a "must read"! Even if not all books are similarly well written, the over all story is a wonderful reading experience.

For the Hunter's Blade, shouldn't I start with the first book about Drizzt and work my way up?
I'd post more later but I'm in a hurry for work now. |

I can suggest a few recommendations to you, but not sure whether you would like it. Well, for more on dwarves, check the Hunter Blades Trilogy where the dwarves had the biggest fight out of their lives against the orcs, the Drizzt Books especially the Siege of Darkness also feature the battle for one of the dwarven homes.
As for Helm...the Maztica Trilolgy did talked about the "heroics" of The Helmites.
For clerics of Tyr, The Pool of Radiance Trilogy did emphasize on a Tyrran cleric and the follow up of the Pools Trilogy: Ruins of Myth Drannor also includes a Tyrran paladin.
Knight of Torm...check the Crucible or Prince of Lies book about Gwydion, a knight of Torm. |

If you are just starting out and want an overall view, check out the harpers set, 16 novels that cover quite a bit. Most are OOP, but looking through used book stores and EBAy can gererally solve this. The songs and swords books are great and also are encompassed within the harpers and later made it's own series. My favorite and first realms novel was spellfire. Paul Kemp's Erevis cale trilogy is excellent and gets into a darker type theme then what was written for realms material of the past. The finder's stone trilogy, which is also OOP, is a great starting point. Everyone here will have differing opinions, but look at what everyone says and you will be a ble to get a general consensus from the other srcibes here |

Well i myself am new as of a week of reading and i started with spellfire as some people recomended and it hooked me right away. But im sure some of the other long time readers can be of more help. |
