The Twilight Giants trilogy was an excellent read, pretty well done and written from my perspective. Surely another one of Troy's masterpieces.

The Threat From the Sea, IMHO, was indeed a true realm-shaking event, afterall major seas, two great cities are hit to crap like Pearl Harbor and undersea cities and seas all reeling from the wrath of the ex-consort of Umberlee. It was a enjoyable novel to read and excellent for gaining insight into the UnderSea world of Faerun.
The RotA simply needs re-editing and rewriting, for I feel the potential in this trilogy had been wasted, not fully used. |

Is the Archwizards series considered a RSE? The last "(allegedly)" RSE I read was Threat From the Sea and I really didn't feel any shaking as a result.
I felt pretty much the same way. I had disregarded the trilogy until quite late on in my FR reading, probably by wrongly judging a book by it's cover, as the cover art on this series' initial release was so
bad. I started to read them anyway and LOVED them! Even after reading the trilogy, I went out and bought the rereleases.
A fantastic series that I think is often overlooked. I recommend it, it's got a great feel to it and has some amazing scenes and atmosphere. I found it to be an enjoyable read from start to finish! |

I read the first book of that trilogy and disliked it so thoroughly I never read the others...

Yup, RotA is an RSE. Oddly, though, it's one seems to have had only minor effects... The effects should be large-scale, but the lack of follow-up on anyone's part has kind of sidelined the whole thing. Yeah, Tilverton was destroyed and the weather of the Heartlands was disrupted for a time, but it seems that all you'll find is passing references to these events -- it's like they really didn't have any lasting effect.
Personally, I couldn't stand this trilogy. He used several of the already established major players in the Realms as his supporting cast, but it seemed that he only did so to emphasize how great his own characters were. White hats that we know to be intelligent, powerful, and wise enough to see the results of their actions just kind of bumbled around, often doing exactly the wrong thing and making the situation worse, leaving his own characters as the only ones to know what the right thing was and do it. Had he not made the Lords of Waterdeep, Vangy, and the Chosen of Mystra look like idiots, I'd've enjoyed the trilogy a lot more. |

The only payoff in reading the Avatar trilogy is being able to read the Shadow of the Avatar trilogy and truly get it in the right order. |

The Avatar Books may not be one of my great favorites but still it managed to give me a basic understanding of the Faerunian Pantheon politics and the events that went on during the ToT through a mortal and a god perspective. Fair enough, the avatar books are not that bad and not that good either.
On Faces of Deception, I agree with the rest of those who posted in this topic. Abrupt and confusing is the novel.
The RotA is considered one of my favorites but it would be good if Mr Troy could re-write the Trilogy in a way that addresses the flaws in the novel. The RotA is a trilogy that had potential and surely a better read novel after re-writing and re-editing. |

Re-reading the Avatar-Trilogy is worse than going to the dentist. I really wish they (WotC) would re-make that specific and very important trilogy. Hell, it worked for TV-series in movies, Charlie's Angels anyone?
I don't see that personally... it'd take quite a bit of work to make the ToT event, as depicted in the "Avatar" trilogy, work for me in a way that would make me want to re-read it.

I can't quite agree with you... I wasn't a fan of the trilogy, but there's a lot of things I'd prefer to see done with novels before rewriting this over-and-done-with event. |

I thought the novel was pretty good actually. The end was very abrupt and totally unexpected, like Lord Rad said it gives it the lasting quality. It really made the book stand out for me. |

Well i loved the novel and loved the ending. It was abrupt and unexpected and left me with a lasting feeling.

What is funny is that this novel is the only one that burned itself into my head with its last sentence: "There was no time to wave"...
Perhaps it is just that easy to remember.I thoroughly enjoyed the novel.
So my thumps up for Mr Troy "Realmsshaker" Denning as well :).

I, on the other hand, hated the novel... It totally failed to interest me, I didn't care for any of the characters, and the ending left me feeling I'd wasted the effort to read that book. I'm glad there's not a sequel.
Lest anyone think me a Troy Denning basher, there are Realms novels by him that I like. It's just there's also a number of Realms novels by him that I didn't like, and/or actively couldn't stand. |

Faces of Deception is a stand-alone novel in the Lost Empires series. The novel receives mixed reviews but personally, I loved it, and the ending worked very well for me. Alas, there is not a sequel, but I think it would be best left that way
I know that it is a stand-alone novel and the end wasn`t quite right to me. But after 7 years I think there isn`t really a big chance for a sequel. It was just a thought. |
