I am new to the FR novels, I took some advice I had seen in a thread here and read the Dark Elf Trilogy and I am just about to finish the Icewind Dale Trilogy (btw, I am glad I read them in that order gives the reader a good idea of how Drizzt has become the person he is). What I would like to know is which Drizzt triology should I read next? The Legacy of the Drow, Hunter's Blade Trilogy or Paths of Darkness. I would like to continue in order, if there is a timeline, to the books. Thanks.

While I would welcome discussion of both the WoT books and those written by Weis... remember that this section is for FR novel discussion. As such, I think it would be more appropriate for you to take such non-FR discussion to Personal Messages or emails.

Kajehase, I was came across the WoT series by accident really. My dad and I sell books where we set up book fairs at local businesses. We happened to get Crossroads at Twighlight when it came out and I looked at the cover seemed like a genre I might be interested in, but since it was the 10th book I decided against it. So, when we got New Spring I decided to take the plunge and start with the prequel to the series. I was hooked immediately, that was March of '05. I subsequently read a WoT novel every month, sometimes two in a month until I got myself to Knife of Dreams. Now that I am current I am trying to fill the gap of not having any of Jordan's books to read. So, I decided to try some of the FR books. I read the thread that suggested books to read decided to go with Drizzt. They've been good reads, but I can't wait for Jordan's next book. Now that I've gone on about nothign related to this thread I might as well keep going. Are the Margaret Weis books any good? How do they relate to Salvatore?)

Depending upon how excited I am by the trilogy itself... I will usually wait to read the entire three books after they've all been released.

Recent trilogies however have forced me to break this rule several times because they've been such grand tales -- notables include Reid's Scions of Arrabar and Kemp's Erevis Cale trilogy.

I always hated to waite for the next book to come out. I had to leave for a little while so now that I'm back I can catch up.

Just consider yourself lucky for not having been on on The Wheel of Time from the beginning, then.

Personally I've never had much of a problem with a series not being finished by the time I start reading it. Once the book in question is finished I'll just go read something else and get involved in that story.

Beezy is totally right about reading an incomplete series. It's not like a comic book that you only have to wait a month. Sometimes years pass and it feels like....well the Last Mythal is the first waiting I have done with a series and I am almost ready to look at page 28 of Power of Faerun when it comes out and find out what the spoiler is.Almost...but probably not.

I read them, for the most part, all as they came out. That is how I quickly learned to dislike reading incomplete series. It is not very fun waiting for a novel to be released, and even less fun when it is origionally released as a hardback and you are forced to wait even longer. Now I usually wait to start reading a series til about the the time the final novel is about to come out. I chose to start war of the spider queen early as well as the year of the rogue dragon trilogy.

Just last year I started reading The Drizzt books and I read them all strait through from The Dark Elf Trilogy to The Hunter's Blade Trilogy. I am so burnt out on Drizzt that I'm glad Salvatore gave us a break on him.
