Posted - 16 Feb 2006 : 13:37:44 Since I'm still waiting for Son of Thunder and Realms of the Elves to arrive... I've decided to tackle one of the other FR novels in my backlog. My choices are:-
- Ghostwalker - Whisper of Waves - Venom's Taste - The Thousand Orcs
So, I thought I'd put these to you and allow my fellow scribes to provide what they believe should be my next novel to read.
Thoughts?

My apologies, Sage. I totally misread and mistook Venom's Taste for Viper's Kiss. I never expected ye would be that far behind in the trilogy
Hehe... Like a lot of scribes here, I usually leave reading a trilogy until the entire three books have been released. But 'House of Serpents' is different. I've only heard great things about this trilogy so far... and thus, the temptation grows for me to read it.

I don't know why I care at all about what somebody else is reading but I'm anxiously awaiting your final decision. So what's it gonna be Sage .
Well, it seems both Ghostwalker and Venom's Taste are the main contenders here -- GW with 5 and VT with 3.
I've been wanting to start the 'House of Serpents' trilogy for quite a while though... so Venom's Taste will likely be the book I'll read next.
Thanks for the suggestion fellow scribes

In this case, ye had better read even faster, to ensure both books are read before Vanity's Brood |

Hmm.
Well, can't make that decision. I mean, after all, they're both illustrated by the illustrious Raymond Swanland.
(Wow -- those two words in the same sentence look cool.)
Er, well, Viper's Kiss is, at least. And Venom's Taste is a prerequisite. It occurs to me that I don't properly know if he did the first one too. Huh.
Cheers
::snicker:: You can't make a suggestion anyway Erik... since it would be biased .

Venom's Taste was illustrated by Therese Nielsen (and with all respect to Raymond Swanland, Larry Elmore, and anyone else who's ever illustrated an FR-novel, her Sembia-series covers are just the best covers ever done on a book with a Forgotten Realms logo on).
Ah, the excellent Therese. Thanks, Kajehase!
I wonder why she didn't do the second House of Serpents. Hmm.
Anyway.

I'd certainly recommend Ghostwalker, but darkcrow is also makes a good point. If ye have time to read Ghostwalker and Venom's Taste before Vanity's Brood is released (which shouldn't be a problem, considering release dates down under ) then why not do both
Thanks for reminding me Big Al .
My decision is swinging back and forth between Erik's work and Venom's Taste. I'll decide in a few more hours.

Posted - 17 Feb 2006 : 03:46:14 I say Venom's Taste because the last book of the Trilogy is coming out soon and by the time you read the first two, you'll be ripe, ready and eager for the last and won't have to wait to long. |

Posted - 17 Feb 2006 : 01:27:01 Ghostwalker looks to be the big hit so far...
I'll make my decision at the end of the day (my time). I'm curious still, to see what other scribes possibly suggest.

Posted - 16 Feb 2006 : 21:40:03 I would also recommend Ghostwalker. It is a stand alone novel which is receiving great praise everywhere I've seen reviews. It seems as if you just can't go wrong with this book! |

Posted - 16 Feb 2006 : 18:18:26 ive only read the thousand orcs. It was interesting. very unlike alot of RAS' other works. It seemed small in scope but interesting and not overly dramatic. |

Posted - 16 Feb 2006 : 14:05:00 I've only read two out of the four you have listed (Ghostwalker and Venom's Taste). I'd go with Ghostwalker, simply because I don't like reading books that have sequals that aren't out yet. I'd wait for March to get the last book of the House of Serpents and then read those.
I do have The Thousand Orcs and the others waiting for me to read, though. The second book of the Watercourse doesn't come out until September.
Of course, if you have no problems reading a book then waiting months for the sequal, then I'd pick Venom's Taste. A friend loaned me a copy, so I was obligated to read it before waiting for the rest of the trilogy to come out, and I found it to be superb. It makes me anticipate her novel in the WotSQ books. (Which I have just recently started.) |
