Posted - 06 Feb 2003 : 13:09:17 I have just this moment started reading Insurrection (book 2 of the War of the Spider Queen series, by Thomas M Reid) and read about some grey-green humanoids called Tanarukks. These creatures sound REALLY interesting. Does anyone know where they are detailed or give any more details\stats about them? |

It was to be expected. In Twilight Dawn he confronted 1st and 2nd level characters with a troll... so why not 1st level character with a... Tanarukks.
I wish you guys good luck and a quick death.
I had never heard of Tanarukks before... makes me curious to your side of the story. We are currently fighting orc's... or at least... we try to...
Thank you for your kind words Ditalidas. I sincerely hope that you feel better and continue to do so.
I fear Tarim is making a mess of things, but what can he do? He is merely a talented kid, with no real battle experience.
I am dying to find out how things will turn out next round. This thing is MUCH tougher than I would have initially thought from the statistics. |

Hmmm... might I remind you that the DM didn't cast the sleep spell... |

Cruel... Of course, DM's prerogative. Seems there are quite some Loviatarran High Priests which serve as DM's as well
Too bad the Tanarukk can't gate in a couple of its fellows... |

Posted - 13 Feb 2003 : 16:05:06 Oh ok, but that brings up the question...
Why in the world would I post my knowledge of the fact, and my characters' intentions to cast a spell that I know will be useless and possibly detrimental? (since this creatue also has the ability to control fire IIRC.)
If I were planning on such a stupid act as to use my knowledge to have my character benefit, I would indeed deserve it.
But I am not, I won't and I don't. |

If I was your Dungeon Master and your character decided not to cast that Burning Hands because you as a player know that it is fire resistant, I would strip you of some of your excess experience points.

Unfortunately for some players in the Silver Marches Pbem (lvl1), they are just face-to-face with the creature and it is not happy...
Oh, that's not good for me, is it? In the Silver Marches campaign, I just charged in to attack the tanarukk... |

I too just started reading this book.(finally). I was wondering if the Tanarukks were something new, or just something seldom used also. I was wondering if the different authors were going to use all different characters in their books or not. Pleasanly suprised to see the Pharun character seems to have made the author transition quite nicely. Also like the new character of Aliisza. Everyone should have an Alu-fiend in their past.
There will not be a whole new set of characters in each book. The story is continuous. You will see new characters introduced from time to time, and some old ones die, but overall, it's one big story.
As for the tanarukks, I used them because they were already there; I knew I had to write some story of the main characters traveling from Menzo to Ched Nasad, and I took a look at what was between the two places. Khaanyr Vhok, Aliisza, and the Scourged Legions were right there in print, and that part of the story almost told itself.

Posted - 06 Feb 2003 : 17:21:29 Well I just got home from work and checked out my Monsters of Faerun (that reminds me, I must build a duplicate collection of FR products so I can have a copy to check thru whilst at work! dont tell the boss though ) and those Tanarukks sure are mean!!
Its nice to see such creatures used rather than just standard orcs and goblinkin. Id love to see another artists impression of a Tanarukk as the MoF version is a bit cartoony (no disrespect to the artist), but I think a creature such as that would look great in the style of Brom...... the WotSQ novel covers are fantastic! |

Posted - 06 Feb 2003 : 15:55:33 Rad,
They appear in Monster Compendium: Monsters of Faerun, on page 72. They are a type of tiefling. They originally appeared in Hellgate Keep, which is also where I got Kaanyr Vhok and Aliisza.
Thomas
P.S. I'm glad you finally managed to lay your hands on a copy of the book! |

They're a crossbreed between Orc and Tanar'ri (or Demon). The first Tanarukks originate from former Hellgate keep, but now the creatures breed true with either Tanarukk partners or Orc partners. |
