In Farthest Reach, on page 113, Sarya is discussing with Malkizid and mentions that the Drow of house Jaelre have been practically kicked out of the Elven Court by a “demonic nemesis”.

I asked Rich Baker if this was a reference to Hallistra, i.e. to what she became (her chasing renegade Drow, etc.; I thought that it might be what she's up to now) and his answer was:

quote:
RB: Mmmm, could be...

Anyone cares for speculation? What did you think when you read that part?

I asked Richard Baker about this in August, and this was his reply:

"Glad you liked the book!

Yes, Halisstra is causing great grief to the Vhaerunites in Cormanthyr. But that's not my story to tell, so I included it just as a quick nod to those folks who were wondering what the drow were up to."

I would just like to know how the designers/writers are going to develop the situation from now on....

I hope someone annihilates her soon.

So, no comments from any Realms author about this subject?. I am wondering if they had second thoughts about having Drow in Cormanthyr and they used this deux ex machina to remove them.

Mmm, I really liked the idea of Drow growing in power in this area...

Concerning the drow being shoved aside, I just assumed it was because of Lolth's silence that they sort of ran back into their holes. That's why I haven't used drow in my campaign since 2002.

I agree with Wooly completely, and I have tha same hopes as KnightErrant.

Has anyone asked Rich about this?
KnightErrantJR Posted - 31 Jul 2005 : 01:11:43
I had a perverse moment of enjoyment thinking that the drow might actually end up allying with the Evermeet elves . . . sigh . . . such political wranglings did not occur however.
Bocklin Posted - 30 Jul 2005 : 18:29:11
Well, we haven't seen the end of it. That's maybe why Rich was not more explicit.

I could imagine that this would be fleshed out in The Final Gate: a confict "(Feyri Vs Drow) Vs Seiveril's crusade" with maybe the Lady Penitent thrown in to wreak havoc.

We'll see.

I personally thought that whatever it was, it was a little too pat that the drow were conveniently removed from Myth Drannor. I would have far rather seen drow versus fey'ri, fighting for control of the city. Even if it happened entirely offstage, and all we knew was that the fighting had happened and cost fey'ri lives, it would have been better than them simply being shuffled out of the way.

Yup in this thread Resurrection (WotSQ #6) - SPOILERS page 2 it is written

"She then takes Halisstra and whispers in her ear that she will never die and will forever be Lolth's/Danifae's battle captive and turns her into something she calls the "Lady Penitent" a creature who always feels pain and the guilt of failing Eilistraee while being consumed with the need to kill the followers of all other drow Gods. She has a new physical form that is very strong and has spider characteristics and she is consumed with hate and hunger to kill while all the while being horrified at her own avarice as the part of her that loved the life of Eilistraee watches in horror. She goes to the Velarswood to start her duties. "

In this thread Resurrection Follow Up (SPOILERS) the first post
Paul S Kemp wrote:

"2. The Lady Penitent is kind of like Lolth's Chosen (not "Chosen One," as in the Yor'thae, but "Chosen" like Cadderly is for Deneir). Of course, being a Chosen of any deity brings its price, and the price paid by the Lady Penitent to serve Lolth is more severe than most."

Bleh. I hope that's all we hear about Hallistra. I'm doing my best to forget about her and the WotSQ in general.

Well I think that she will fade from the story.

While there is the posibility the twice traitor might be the cause, it strikes me as unlikely.

The Blessing of Lolth is hardly one that should encourage anything but fearfilled obedience.

Clerics have ways of dealing with Demons and House Jaelre has many Clerics.

Well Hallistra is a bit more than a normal demon isn`t she?

Well a pain filled demon, despised by Lolth, however still a Demon. Holy water will work even if banishment does not.

I wonder if she is still as attractive as she was in the novel series... Lolth could have sent her to seduce V's clergy and that way strike at the very heart of House Jaelre.

Lolth is quite a subversive goddess - which means anything is possible.

Dispite that, I doubt she will appear in the third book. If anything I would bet we only get another passing reference to Jaelre or the Elistraeans problems.

Yes, that's my feeling as well. I still think it's interesting to see this cameo appearance... ;-)

I had wondered if it was Hallistra as well, when I read that, especially given her comment at the end of Ressurection. Dispite that, I had taken her thought about unfinished business to be directed at the Elistraeans, not House Jaelre, but nevertheless, I think its entirely possible she is the cause of Jaelre's problems.

Unless the crazy form that she became at the end of Resurrection was set loose by Lolth to gain some revenge on the Jaelre Drow that so quickly summoned Vhaeraun to attack her in Book 3... ah well, the intricacies of being a dark elf. :)

It's all about Sarya Anyway!!!

There again I do not find the story of Hallistra very believable so prehaps she is actively working for Lolth's goals. *shrug*

We need to wait and see.
