I just wanted to start this thread as an open thank you letter to all authors in the War of the Spider Queen. So let me get it rolling.
Richard Byers - Thank you for introducing us to Phauran, Ryld, Valas, and Jeggred and for showing us the dark magic that is Menzoberranzan.
Thomas Reid - Thank you for showing us the Sinister Beauty of Ched Nasad and fragile majesty of dark elven society. Thank you for Halisstra and Danifae.
Richard Baker - Thank you for bringing a Duergar and Tanarruk Army to Menzoberranzans doorstep and showing us the mystery of the Labyrinth and the dangers of Myth Drannor even to a band of skilled drow nobles. Also thank you for the Dragon write-ups of all the major players in this epic tale.
Lisa Smedman - Thank you for a unique inside look at the faith of Eilistraee and reminding us that even a lifetime of indoctrination can't prevent a crisis of faith.
Phil Athans - Thank you for being the madman behind concieving this series. Thank you as well for reminding us that a Drow turning their back on their way of life is not guarantee of a happy ending.
Paul Kemp - Thank you for bringing us full circle and giving closure to our 3.5 year journey. Thank you for showing us the Demon Web Pits and for closing the epic tale in such a truely Drow fashion.
R.A. Salvatore - Thank you for opening your gate and letting us all play in your back yard during this amazing ride. Without your conception of a drow ranger sidekick to some Northern Barbarian we wouldn't have this playground to play in at all. Also thank you for sharing with all the authors to make sure that the Drow remained all that they are and that you made them.
Finally as a thanks to all the authors...
Thank you all for your hard work, your commitment, and your absolute devotion to bringing the Dark World of the Drow to life without taking away all the things that make them uniquely drow. Six books, three and a half years, and a ride that can't be described with one mans words later and here we are. Without all of you, we could never have had such a phenominal journey. We are all in your debt. In my humble opinion this has been the greatest series of books ever written about the Realms. Until next our paths cross and the next epic tale is spun write on and well met. |

Well, if another epic series does happen, it doesn't necessarily have to be focused on a particular race, as WotSQ did. However, it would be nice to see an epic series on dwarves, as there had never been a FR novel with a dwarven protagonist (Bruenor does NOT count, people!). |

Well I certainly hope so. This series has definately worked well in that format. One other unique format I like is the Sembia series - being an initial anthology where each author wrote a short story for a particular character of the series, then six novels, each about the character featured in the anthology. Independant stories but with the odd scene which loosly fit in with another of the books. Very well done  |

I felt the same George. I felt as though I had had a lifetimes worth of drow after overdosing on RAS novels. If I read one more thing about drow or the underdark, I was gonna scream!
However...
WotSQ blew me away! It has held me gripped for a good few years now, i'm very excited (although a little sad also) to get my hands on Resurrection. The first three books blew me away and introduced me to three of my all-time favorite Realms authors. Since then, I haven't been disappointed by Mr Byer's Year of Rogue Dragons, Mr Reid's Scions of Arrabar and Mr Baker's The Last Mythal (and although not read yet - Mr Kemp for his Erevis Cale Trilogy). Whilst books 4 and 5 were good in their own right, the first three hold the most for me. There were some pretty good scenes in 4 and 5 though, regardless
WotSQ is not only a stunning series, but it set a new benchmark for the quality of Realms novels IMO.
So thanks to everyone involved in this series, it does down with the aforementioned and Sembia as my top FR titles

I must say that I wasn't particularly enthused about yet 'another' series of novels on the drow, when I first heard of this series.
However, having the first 4 in softcover, I can honestly say that I've greatly enjoyed them all thus far and looking forward to the last two books. Good, solid Realms prose across the board.

Hear, hear, freakboy. When I first heard about the WotSQ series, I was a skeptic like many readers and critics about such a project. Six different authors for a six-book series?! However, I was very happy to see that they have proven me wrong and showed that it was worth $40 per hardcover book in this series! Lol. |

Well said, thank ye Freakboy. The War of the Spider Queen series has also been one of my favorite series (although I have yet to acquire my copy of Resurrection, but i'm sure it will be a fitting end to a wonderful series  )
These novels have certainly been very well written and provided a mixture of emotions for me personally. They have also delivered some very shocking moments (even for the chaotic nature of the drow). Thoroughtly enjoyable. I'll certainly have a little empty place inside once this long-running series is over  |
