Beware this thread contains spoilers!
Wow, what a great book this is, I can't believe it's been sat on my shelf for years and never touched. I should have known better being as i've loved Novak & Grubb's previous work.
This novel is riddled with Realms flavor and features aspects of the Realms which are close to my heart. Set in Daggerdale and featuring the Zhentarim et al are just what I love to read about. There are some great "wow" points that made me have to put the book down for a moment to get to grips with myself.
One point I particulary thought pretty smart was when the party located Shraevyn's Tomb in the Giants Craw Valley, and merely stated something like "we can't go into the tomb, we don't have the resources. Let's just send message to Randal Morn of this finding, he can follow it up and bring a party down here himself" ...and thus, leads on perfectly to the events in the Sword of the Dales FR adventure module  |

Yeah, I know this is an old thread, but I just finished this book. I really liked this book. I wish I had read it sooner than I had. It gave you some great insight into Finder, and I think Grubb and Novak "get" that paladin's don't always have to be thick skulled intolerat dolts (though Holly did make some mistakes . . . I'm curious to see if the mysterious thing that told her that she should go to Sigil and it would watch over Jas will show up in Tymora's Luck . . . of course I'm curious to see if I can find a copy of Tymora's Luck).
"We wouldn't be surprised to find they have a god there with dominion over the tableware and ale mugs," who knew an illithid god would have a sense of humor?
"If a woman wearing cuttlery on her head walks toward you, turn and run in the opposite direction," the best summation of the Lady of Pain I think I have read.

One of the authors, Jeff Grubb, was also a writer for the comics. So yeah, Jasmine the winged girl in the novel was the same as the one from the comics series. She was first intro'ed in the Triangles story line of the AD&D comic (around issue 14, I want to say), and she later left to become part of the Spelljammer comic.
The Realms, Krynn, wildspace, Sigil, the planes... Jasmine is one very widely-traveled young lady. |

I read the book earlier this summer. I read all of the Harper's books except the last two, so now it's down to one. I wondered about the winged woman being the same from the comics. My collection is unavailable for another month or so, so I was unable to check.
Good story, nice Realms' specifics, although many Realms books have the Spelljammer tie-ins, including this one, which now no longer hold true I believe. Plus, it has one of Sage's favorite planar hubs featured which I first discovered here. |

I couldn't tell you, I've not had to look for it -- I bought it when it first came out.
I found my copy on Ebay. You could check either there or a used bookstore.

Ah, good idea.
I had intended to put the book on hold for a few weeks to work through my backlog of novels from various other publishers that I wish to read, however, from what I've heard about The Two Swords... there are some surprises (or rather changes) in store... and I've never been one to shy away from a mystery, or for that matter, a good old fashioned shake-up of the status quo .

Novak and Grubb are an awesome duo, and I love their stuff. I was also happy to see them use Jasmine as a character -- I liked her in the comics.
Is it safe to assume you'll be reading the rest of the trilogy next, or at least Tymora's Luck? Note: You can skip straight to that book without worrying about missing anything in Fistandantilus Returns. I wasn't overly fond of that book, plus it's a Dragginglance novel and it's not written by Novak and Grubb. It intro's one character for the third book, but that's it. |
