In light of the Eberron novel open call, I was wondering about the "typical" point of view of the narration in FR novels. I recall that all the books in the Dragonlance series were written in the third person and wanted to know whether this was the case for the Forgotten Realms as well?
I am toying with the thought of writing my sample with a first person perspective, so I wanted to make sure that this isn't considered a breach of style. |

Most of the FR novels I've seen are done in limited third-person or omniscient third-person. The few times I've seen first-person used, it's in one of the short stories in the "Realms of..." anthologies. (And the aforementioned Crucible.) |

Thanks to the both of you for the answers, they're much appreciated. I haven't fully decided on narration or story yet, as I'm still reading the setting book. It takes longer than I initially expected, especially with all the other distractions hogging my freetime. |

Just a word of warning, First Person is one of the the hardest styles to write.
I'm not saying Don't do it, I'm saying its harder then many people think.
Third person with a focus on one charicter is easyer to write and many times read then first person.
Good luck on that propsal!!! |

I suppose the third person would be considered the typical point of view in FR novels, but at least one, "Crucible: The Trial of Cyric the Mad" by Troy Denning, is written from the point of view of one of the characters. |
