Posted - 27 Nov 2002 : 18:01:43 Does anyone know the fate of the NWN anthology? I think the first release date was around this time last year, then it was moved to March this year or thereabouts and it just seems to have disappeared?! |

Posted - 06 Dec 2002 : 02:37:07 well the thing i find funny about it is that the amazon.com person said they contacted the book's publisher (which i'd assume would be WotC... and again i'd ASSume that wotc would let all the people in the company know about such in case they were asked...) and yet the person was told it is to be published in Feb....
bleh... people need to get their stories straight... |

Posted - 05 Dec 2002 : 22:20:58 Well, all I can tell you is that the editor who was due to put the anthology together told me personally not to worry about writing a story, and then confirmed it with me a couple of days ago when I asked him if I could post to the public that it had been cancelled.
On the other hand, Amazon.com still had my November novel shipping in December until a few days ago. So I'll leave it to you to decide whom to trust for accuracy.

Posted - 05 Dec 2002 : 18:49:44 Hmm... funny.. after reading this thread here and on the board for "the wizards whom dwell upon the coast" both say that it's cancelled... so i went to Amazon.com and cancelled the order i had placed (which they supposedly gave me free 2-day shipping cause i complained about the wait... hehe) and i e-mailed them to tell them that from word of a few authors on the other forum that it's been cancelled and that they might want to contact Wizards of the Coast for further details... and the response in my e-mail that i received was as follows:
"Thanks for writing to us at Amazon.com.
I have contacted the publisher by phone for more information about this item. The representative with whom I spoke indicated that the book, "Neverwinter Nights (Forgotten Realm)" has a publication date of February 15, 2003.
Thanks for shopping at Amazon.com."
Hmm... this is getting suspicious, especially when the updated release date was May of 2003... hmm... Mysteries of this such can seriously suck you-know-what. |

Great interview on this site by the way, really interesting and amusing too
Its a shame about NWN anthology, im sure it would have done well, not only with FR novel fans but also with fans of the computer game. Saying that, I dont know how well the Baldurs Gate novels did. IN fact, thats probably where i can rant again as no doubt Baldurs Gate computer game players wouldnt be able to find a single copy of the novels anywhere anyway
Anyway, not wanting to get off topic too much, Ill be looking forward to reading your stories in Dragon magazine!! |

Hi Paul! Good to hear that you were one of the authors for the anthology! How near completion was your story when the plug was pulled?
Thomas\Paul: Do you have an idea who all the other authors were and how many of the stories had already been written?
Hi Rad,
In truth, I had submitted only a detailed outline of the story, characters, etc. But for a story of that length, that's the toughest part, at least for me. After that, converting it to a 10-15K story is relatively easy. In other words, my story is not yet written; it exists only as an outline. It was that outline that Dragon approved and asked me to put into final form. My apologies for creating any misconceptions.
I don't know how many stories were to be included, and I didn't know any of the other authors until Thomas posted here. Hello, Thomas! Congrats on Insurrection and the Scions of Arrabar trilogy. I'll look forward to both.
Paul

Feel free to rant away Mumadar, maybe WotC will understand that theres a huge D&D fan-base outside of the US and inprove the distribution!

Just out of curiosity, any stories you might have written, are they already 'owned' by WotC?
That's not a bad notion, Mumadar, but I never got my story written. There were two groups of authors, and the first group (including Mr. Kemp, I suppose) already had their stories finished. The second group only got as far as the "Would you like to write a story? Good, here's your deadline" phase, and the plug got pulled shortly thereafter. So there's nothing to offer (I hadn't even had a chance to sit down and pick a subject or do any outlining).

Posted - 03 Dec 2002 : 18:01:43 Hehehe... Paul, you're only answering half of the question...
<tease - tease>
But let us know (if you're allowed to do so) which issue we should look out for. Because of all the moving I did this year I'm no longer subscribed to Dragon and haven't yet seen a magazine in a store in Budapest yet. However, I'm still interested and just might order them on-line.
<sigh> to bad D&D is so heavily US orientated makes it sometimes difficult for the rest of the world to enjoy the game </sigh>

LOL! Well said Mumadar! Indeed it would be a shame to waste such lore and im sure many would appreciate reading such tales. I know I for one have been looking forward to reading this Neverwinter Nights tome ::sigh:: Yet another one to move across onto the Vaporware shelf
I was also all set to do a story for the NWN Anthology when I learned of its cancellation (I kept my silence for the same reason that Thomas did). Obviously, I can't speak for Thomas, but I can answer your question as it relates to me. I expect the story I had proposed for the anthology to appear in Dragon next year. Dragon's editor has approved it, so it's just a matter of finding the time to finalize it.

I know that you (and the other writers) are writing stories to generate income, but if these stories do not get published, it would seem a waste of Realmslore and Realms-entertainment.
Just a wild idea... |

Dont suppose you can reveal the reason behind the cancellation?
Yes, a first batch of stories was written; that happens from time to time. Those may find their way into another forum at some point in the future (DRAGON Magazine, for example). I wasn't given any reason, and I'd hate to speculate beyond the notion that it probably just didn't fit into the editors' schedules.

Can any of the WotC staff on these forums shed any light on this matter? Has this novel been shelved? I would have thought all the short stories have been written already......what is the hold up thats delayed it for over a year?!
Ok, the official word is that the anthology has been cancelled. I was supposed to write one of the stories for it, but was told never mind back this summer. I didn't want to post anything to reveal this until I got a go-ahead from inside the hallowed halls.
