Hmmm... don't know about the requirement for that series... unless one is specifically looking for what the Times of Troubles (ToT) was about. Something which is of less importance in current day Realms, set well after the event. The ToT explanation was the reason I finally choose to read the books, but wasn't very much impressed.
If one wants to compare the Avatar series to DragonLance novels, these are in style very close. Dealing obviously with an adventuring party as in the format as we all know from the Table Top games. The current novels in the Sembia series are of a completely different style and IMO fit the Realms much better (as do the books of Salvatore).
The anthology series provide a better look at the Realms and give a brief feeling of what tranpires... touching and hinting only at tips of proverbial ice-bergs. They can entice the reader to delve further into the world and get thoroughly lost as many of us scribes are. Hehehe... the Realms are like Ravenloft, once you're in, you can't get out. |

Posted - 26 Nov 2002 : 17:13:02 AH HA you have touched on the exact reason y the Forgotten Reamls is so much better then DragonLance...DragonLance revolves around the same hand full of characters so it is important for there to be a book reading order...but the reason that u are not understanding peoples responses is becase there IS NO ORDER!!!!!!!!! in readings
Every series or Trilogy is about someone new and differant and RARELY do they interact with characters from other series.
IMO the best way is the way TSR/WOTC intended...the order they were published...but u can start anywhere, there are Trilogys and series in the realms but they are clearly marked on the covers as to what series and what order....EVERYONE started somewhere different
in my experiance being a long time reader i read all of them as published. MOST Other people pick and choose what they want to read based on interest.
So whereever is good. Other then Drizzt i could suggest The Avatar Trilogy being the ONLY series that is even kind of required reading, the rest are just whenever u feel like it. |

Posted - 26 Nov 2002 : 16:28:59 no what i mean is like in all series there is a beginning series u read to get a introduction like to the books. Like the whole Dragonlance Chronicales and the Test of Twins series comes next. They werent the 1st books published or anything but they are the books u read when u want to get into the books. What books are the books u read to get into the Forgotten realm? |

Posted - 26 Nov 2002 : 16:22:12 Yeah that link should do it! Ive just checked the direct link (http://www.wizards.com/forgottenrealms/FR_Timeline.asp#KnownChronological) which shows the historical chronological order of Forgotten Realms books. Is this what you mean?
As for publishing order, i think first was Darkwalker on Moonshae, but im not sure what followed, i dont think that Black Wizards was published straight afterwards but i may be wrong. |

Posted - 26 Nov 2002 : 16:20:43 Oh i went to the link and it gave me the Choronological order of the books. Thats not what im really looking for. |

Posted - 26 Nov 2002 : 16:19:39 i want the order for the beginning books. Like for example, in Dragonlance your supposed to read the Dragons of Autumn Twilight,Dragons of Winter Night, and than Dragons of Spring Dawning. Is there a forgotten realm 3 books that i should read just to give me an insight into the books? |

Posted - 26 Nov 2002 : 05:16:56 Indeed there is...but it's tricky....
If you game at all (as in play Dungeons and Dragons), you should know about core rule books and stuff.....there is a Faerun book that gives you all the details of the Forgotten Realms world...it is wonderful...there is a timeline in the back...... |
