In Ed's original Realms, there are many namesakes (characters who ended up with the same names independently, as well as being deliberately named after a famous forebearer, or one after the other), just as in our real world. It's one of the "more realistic and great roleplaying because you can never be sure, even without fraud artists" elements stripped away in the published Realms to avoid confusion. THO |

Posted - 21 May 2004 : 08:43:30 It really wouldn't surprise me if it is a case of the one character being named after the other or both being named after some other Noumea. I know that within the realms it is supposed to be fairly common for children to be given the same name as gods and other important people.
One good example of this would be Torm the Rogue, member of the Knights of Myth Drannor, who is most definitely not Torm the God nor even a worshipper.

Posted - 20 May 2004 : 19:26:28 Though I understand that two people can have the same name (though it seems that Ed's name are so unique that no two should have the same name), it's a shame that I can't assume that this is Noumea's time after her tenure as Magister. |

Posted - 20 May 2004 : 16:07:29 No, they're two different females with the same given name. If you check the Realmslore notes at the beginning of ELMINSTER IN HELL, Ed clearly explains this in the "When Sembians Stop For Tea" memory entry. Yours in ever-deeper Realmslore, THO |

Posted - 20 May 2004 : 13:57:11 I'm not entirely certain, since I don't have Elminster's Daughter yet, but I believe the story occurs in the current year of the Realms (1373 DR). Noumea Drathchuld's time as the Magister ended in 1370 DR. The title of Magister then passed to Talatha Vaerovree, and she has been the Magister ever since.
So to answer your original question, I have no idea . I just like reciting inappropriate facts...
