Posted - 16 May 2004 : 01:50:24 Here,Here Freakboy.I couldn't agree with you more.Though I have only read the first two,and am currently reading Condemnation. This will be IMHO the best series put together, ever. After I read Extinction.I hope I remember to ask what you didn't like in it. |

Posted - 10 May 2004 : 01:22:24 I'm sure you have read dozens of posts on this, but if you are considering reading WOTSQ you have made a superb choice. They are easily the best series of books written in the realms that I have read to date. Richard Byers, Thomas Reid, Richard Baker, and Lisa Smedman have all done better than excellent jobs thus far, and I suspect that Athans and Kemp will do similarly spectacular jobs. I would rate the books on a 1-10 scale as follows.
Dissolution - 10 Insurrection - 10 Condemnation - 10 Extinction - 9 (There were things in this book that I didn't personally care for, but it was still a very good book)
The thing that really makes these books stand apart is the combination of the amazing character development that exists for the protagonists (drow) that would be just another faceless villain in other novels, and the rich storytelling that really brings the world of the underdark to life in ways that it never has.
You will in the course of your readings see a city made of calcified webs, an underwater aboleth city, a duergar metropilis, a labyrinth inhabited by demonic minotaurs and many more locals to numerous to describe here. I recommend you tell all your friends about it, and get them to buy copies so that WoTC will see how much we as fans of the realms love a novel series like this. With any luck, the next time a project like this comes up in a planning meeting WoTC will be more inclined to give it the nod. We as fans of the realms deserve as much, but it is only going to happen if we show WoTC that it is profitable by buying the books.
I am not exaggerating when I say that this series is the absolute best fantasy/fiction cluster of books I have read. High praise I know, but it really is that good.

Posted - 10 May 2004 : 00:02:37 i think the cover arts are "fantastic" but unfortunately the artists didnt mentioned..i think it is the beginning of the wotc's big project:giving chance to other(especially the young ones)authors..of course with the help of salvatore...when i look at these masterpieces,i,again, think that there shouldnt be wotc or hasbro;only greenwood and salvatore should lead the realms.... |
