I didnt want to drop this thread in the Paul S. Kemp thread section, because i figured someone else could answer my question for me.

I just started reading the book, and I am enjoying it very much. Please highlight below to view the spoiler / question:

I am at the part where Drasek Riven just backstabbed "the rightous man" while performing a summoning of a greater dread. Now the rightous man has now just been violated by the dread and his taken over his body and his thoughts, the dread also called upon some of his lesser dread's to help him in his "food" hunting.

My question is why can the lesser dreads live in the positive plane without being hurt physically? the books quickly says that they only have slight ties to the negative plane, so does this mean they are also from the positive plane? kind of a 50/50 deal? if so how where they created ?

Thanks for the input! btw this is a great book..

end of spoiler....

Wow i get an answer from the man himself!

Thanks for the info, I was just curious. Your book by the way is excellent, especially the character Jak Fleet ! (reminds me of Tasslehof Burefoot from the Dragon Lance Series).

Thanks again Mr. Kemp

Signal,

I did not see this question for a while because of all our sticky threads above. Since no one else seems able to answer, I will.

The lesser dreads are not composed of some split of negative and positive energy. Rather, they are composed to some degree of negative energy, but it represents only a small portion of their essence, such that merely being in the presence of positive energy does not harm them. Yrsillar, the greater dread (and a powerful demon), is different. He more or less embodies negative energy, he is of it, and it is the stuff of which he is composed. This gives him the ability to use it in ways that substantially harm creatures not composed of the stuff, but makes him vulnerable to even small amounts of positive energy.

Note that neither greater nor lesser dreads are found in any D&D monster book. We did stat them out in a Dragon issue, though. I believe it was #277.

Paul
Anyway, I hope that answers your question.
