i've finished reading The Sapphire Crescant a few days ago and i must say that Mr Reid proved that you don't need to have high level characters and dazzling spells to write a book, just a great story and that the case of course for the sapphire crescent. i just couldn't stop reading it in the end.
i am truly looking forward for the next part of the trilogy just after i finish reading "the rage" ai am going to continue with "insurrection"

Jim Butler still hasn't managed to make the inroads into the book chain he was hoping to, and he's talking to some people to enhance that before we release the second title. It also gives me some breathing room for the slough of projects I have on my plate right now. Right now, the release date is tentatively planned for late summer.

Thank you for the update on the release of the next Bastion Press novel. I hope everything works out for them and their push into the novel line. Mr. Butler has always been very friendly and courteous when talking to folks online.

Actually, he is a priest, a sorcerer, AND a fighter. And when I made references to him studying his magic, I was suggesting that he was learning how to tap into his latent sorcerer abilities from someone else (you know, training to go up a level and all that ).

That's all right, I appreciate the heads up. The extra time needs to be used by those who haven't been introduced to this story yet as it's very promising.

Then I wrote Ed and asked, "that's three dots for ANY kind of magic, right?" and he said, "Oh, no. Chandathans don't mind priests with magic, it's the wizards and sorcerers that make them nervous. So they only paint three dots if they can use ARCANE magic."

Suddenly, my main character was also a budding sorcerer. In the end, I really like the new dimension to Vambran, but it never would have happened if I hadn't asked for three dots on his head in the art order.

Who knows..... In my opinion, Wizards of The Coast has been shifting dates and authors far too much. They even got rid of a section of their message boards! However, I hope Thomas stays of the Arrabar Trilogy, as I am an immense fan of the Sapphire Crescent.

I just finished the book last night, and it was an awesome read. All the political intrigue and the behind-the-scenes action was great. I do enjoy trilogies much more than single novels. With the trilogies, you can go into more detail and get to know the main characters a little better, and Mr. Reid allowed us to get to know Vambran and his internal struggles real well. And the ending for the first book in a trilogy had me astounded. Great job, I am so looking forward to book 2, only 10 more months to wait.

That was actually something that originated with Ed himself. It was in some material that he sent me (I think it was also posted in a few places online) detailing the culture of Chondath.

I have a general idea of how it's all going to go, but as I sit down to begin working on each book in the trilogy, I work up a more detailed outline that sometimes goes in unexpected directions. But I know generally who the main antogonists are, what they're planning, and how it's all going to work out.

Well another satisfied customer here!!

I like Rad zipped through this book, as the pacing was fantastic and the ends of each chapter were page turners, and you just could not put it down.

I mentioned to Rad that it is good when you see a name on the front of a book and you just know that it is going to be good. Thomas Reid you certainly don't dissapoint. From Insurrection to this, a truly great pair of Realms novels. I can't wait for the next one now! I guess I will have to read 'Temple of Elemental Evil' in the meantime ;-)

Thanks for the snippets of info for the next book. Thomas do you have the entire trilogy planned out already?

Keep up the good work!!

WOW!!!! Just finished reading The Sapphire Crescent, read through it in only a few days, I could hardly put the novel down.

I highly recommend this novel and cant believe ive got to wait almost a year til book 2!! ARGH!

Excellent job Thomas, great writing style and quite a different flavor of novel for the Realms. The story has much mystery and intrigue rather than full-on battles scenes which makes a nice change. A good mixture of emotions were brought out of me whilst reading...I even ended up gritting my teeth and found myself reading faster at one point, my heart racing!

Definately one of the best FR novels of this year!!

Thanks so much! I'm really thrilled you enjoyed it that intensely. Always makes my job that much more fun.

Sure . . . MAJOR SPOILERS FROM BOOK 1 FOLLOW! NOT KIDDING!

As you can imagine, with the weight of newfound responsibility sitting on the shoulders of both Vambran and Emriana, the stakes are about to get just a wee bit higher for them in the second book. They made a lot of enemies after wrecking the alliance (including some very surprising ones), and there are powerful people behind the scenes that are not happy about that. Also, Xaphira is going to play a larger roll in the second book, as well. The storyline will spread beyond Arrabar a bit for some parts, so we'll get to see more of Chondath. That's about all I think I should say right now.

Yep. That's Vambran Matrell, the main protagonist, standing somewhere in downtown Arrabar, the capital of Chondath. I think that kind of looks like the Generon, though I didn't specify what building should be in the background when I did up the art suggestion.

Can you give us ANY more information on the novel and the series at all now that the release date is a bit closer? ::drool::

Are the books stand-alone or do they follow on from each other?

Sure. The three books tell a larger story, a true trilogy. I won't give away much, but I'll tell you a bit about Vambran. He's a mercenary captain who also happens to be a member of a wealthy mercantile family in Arrabar. Despite the fact that he is several spots removed from being the future head of the household (several aunts and uncles and an older brother), he still becomes embroiled in the politics of the family business and has to struggle to stay true to his own beliefs when faced with pressure from other family members to do what's right for House Matrell.

I'm currently working on the revisions for the book, so I don't want to say any more than that, in case I decide to change a few things.

Yeah, I was blown away when I first saw the painting for the book. The artist (Duane O. Myers) did a fantastic job capturing the look of my main protagonist. I was giddy!
