So, since I've only started reading Forgotten Realms books a couple of years ago, I've missed out on all the older books.
Some books from more popular authors have had reprints so I could read those (mostly stuff from RAS and Ed), but with the advent of eBooks, and WotC solving the problem of people outside NA not being able to buy them, I've had the opportunity to pick up some of the earlier books.
After having read all of Elaine Cunningham's books (except the collected stories that don't have an eBook edition), I went back and started picking up books in the order than they have been released (or at least I'm reading trilogies that way).
I can't say that I liked the Moonshaes trilogy much, I just couldn't get past how I found the main character to be unlikeable. So I was concerned that I wouldn't like most of the older books.
But then I picked up Azure Bonds and found the book to be simply great. I can't wait to see how the other books in the trilogy are. |

I loved The Wyven's Spur SO MUCH. Azure Bonds is great for its around the Dales/Cormyr/Westgate epicness, but there is a great mystery in Immersea.

Given the fact that it's a hundred years later, that Jeff Grubb and Kate Novak weren't involved, and that 4E focused more on newly-created characters, I think it's unlikely that we'll ever hear more about that group. |

There is a fourth book, too -- Masquerades.
And we see more of one of the characters in Finder's Bane, and the characters from that one are also in Tymora's Luck. The latter also offers brief glimpses into the families of some of the characters from The Wyvern's Spur.
In my opinion, Elaine Cunningham and the writing duo of Jeff Grubb and Kate Novak are simply the best authors we've seen for the Realms. |
