Posted - 04 Oct 2012 : 18:20:38 Have bought all of the three latest Elminster novels in hardcover. Just finished Elminster Enraged. Was in a bookshop today and saw the paperback for Bury Elminster Deep and noticed that at the start of every chapter, there are little "Ed snippets" (quotes etc.).
WotC provided these for Elminster Must Die (why they were cut in the first place is totally beyond me) on their website but have not done so for the other two books. Can't fathom at all why the paperback version would have this stuff and not the hardcovers.
Can't believe that I'm now going to buy a paperback version of a book I already have simply to get a few chapter blurbs. Nice one WotC. Brilliantly done. A unique and less than becoming marketing choice.

P.S. Oh, and the second paperback has got a partial map of Suzail too. |

Posted - 05 Oct 2012 : 04:06:20 Of course, I'll probably just continue my habit of purchasing the paperbacks as well, which is a tradition I've long maintained for Ed's Realms hardbacks.
I like having copies of both, since the hardbacks usually end up in storage and the paperbacks fall to my re-read stacks when I'm done with them as well. So I'll likely get the "Ed Snippets" for Elminster Enraged once the paperback releases. |

I asked Wizards Marketing just after the release of the hardcover of Bury Elminster Deep when we could expect the "Ed Snippets" to become available on their website. The reply simply stated that they were still "working on it."
We've since seen the release of Elminster Enraged in hardcover as well, now, and still nothing in terms of those previous "Ed Snippets" have been released.
It might be worth contacting Wizards again, I think. |
