I just got the December novels in and they feel very flimsy compared to last month's Brimstone Angles and previous novels. It seems like they're using thinner (cheaper?) paper and makes me feel like I'm going to tear them while I'm reading.

Anyone else experience the same thing?

Even i prefer the newer books. Thinner means they take up less space and that is a big help for me.

Nah. Nothing beats the feel of a "real" book.

They need to switch to electronic paper

Almost all "fat" novels of all genre that are released in paperback have thin paper. Erikson's, Modesitt Jr.'s, etc.

Yeah, the newest novels do have that thinner paper but there are plenty of other TSR/Wizards novels in the past that had the same feel to them. I actually kind of prefer the thinner paper. Not sure why. They also had some Dragonlance novels that had the same thinner feeling as well that came out around the same time.
I would imagine it just happens to be with whatever the monetary factor is that month and who is printing them and where.

I don't care how thin the paper is (as long as it doesn't rip when you turn the pages!). I am just grateful that they are PRINT editions rather than e-book only editions!

I confirm. The paper in "Cry of the Ghost Wolf" is thinner than in previous novels.

The "latest" I bought is Whisper of Venom by Richard Lee Byers. The paper is fine, so is the cover. The thickness, or thinness, is the same as the ones published five or ten years ago. The only editions that have really thin paper are the omnibus.

You can confirm by looking up the publisher and printing house. There might be tiny legal comments proclaiming technical parameters for the book, including fontsets and grade of paper chemistry.
