I am Extremely interested in reading the history of Faerun from the beginning but I am not sure what books or series I should be looking for. Is there a series about how the realms began and how things formed as we know them now?

I will have to find the Grand history book for sure. i have read Evermeet and I really enjoyed it, its actually the book that made me want to read more history on Faerun. I have read Cormyr a novel as well and so far I feel like im 2 for 2 in awesome reads! I hadnt heard about the Year of Rogue Dragons books but i read a little bit online and they look great thanks for all the advice I really appreciate it

2 for 2.only another 200 to go.

I have read ALL the RAS books and i have read all but one of the Realms of (blank) short stories books. I have also read the first 3 books in the Elminster series.

RLB's Year of Rogue Dragons was fantastic! Definitely much darker than Evermeet and Cormyr for sure. Not sure how much history of the realms is involved/mentioned but it goes into a decent bit of detail about the history of the dragons of the Realms. Overall, a must read series. It was one of the first non-Salvatore series that I read and it's the only series that I've read twice so far. I eventually want to get around to reading the Realms of Dragons Anthologies too!

I don't think it covers a lot of history. Nevertheless, it's a good series. It features two of the Realms' long-lived powerful beings---the lich Sammaster and Iryclea the Ice Queen.

It didn't cover a lot of history, but it did give a good peek into the history of the dragons of the Realms, even tho it barely scratched the surface.

I have an ex-girlfriend who would also fall under the "Ice Queen" category

Unfortunately, the PDF of Brian's Grand History was removed from the Candlekeep archives (and Brian's website) shortly before the official publication of the hardbound tome from WotC. Though the book's art work are really great, and there are many events added.

Evermeet is a good one for reading the history of the elves in FR. The Year of Rogue Dragons trilogy also has several interesting bits of historical lore.

The Forgotten Realms Atlas is a nice source as well, not on history per say but a great companion to the earlier Realms books

You might want to read A Grand History of the Realms. Most of the signifant events in the Realms [spanning millenia] are chronicled in that book.
