Would that be a child from the old mage and the Symbul? There have been hints about their relationship...

Interesting, but depending on who writes the book. After reading the first three books in the Elminster series, I wasn't too impressed with Greenwoods style of writing. |

and about Tangled Webs, the first thing posted on this topic is about book 3, Windwalker , so no Tangled Webs will be book 2 in a 3 book series. |

Posted - 19 Sep 2002 : 18:04:07 The Hunters Blades Trilogy is centered around Drizzt Do'Urden (as im sure youre familiar with), this time he is alone (well, at the start anyway) and without his usual companions like Bruenor and Cattie-brie. Of course there are other companions that he will meet on his travels and become close to.
Im not sure of the overall plot but im certainly looking forward to the books. Im no great Drizzt fanatic who thinks he is the best character ever created, but I have loved all of R.A. Salvatores, I think his writing style is excellent. It was also quite nice how Salvatore deviated away from Drizzt to concentrate on Wulfgar in "Spine of the World" and on Artemis and Jarlaxle in "Servant of the Shard".

Posted - 16 Sep 2002 : 21:58:39 I have seen the two alternate covers too. I believe they are just some early paintings sent from WOTC and Amazon just hasn't changed them.
So Philip Athans is gonna write the 5th book in war of the spiderqueen series, I hope he makes a better job than with once around the realms, Baldurs Gate 1 and 2. |

Posted - 16 Sep 2002 : 03:22:25 Okay... one thing with Neverwinter Nights, if you go to Amazon.com's site and then search for the book, the book's page says it is a special order and that they tend to go out of print or the publishers run out of stock... but that's according to Amazon's webpage of the book.
And then as for the War of the Spider Queen series... from the book itself, the other titles are 2.Insurrection - By: Thomas M. Reid - Dec '02 3.Condemnation - By: Richard Baker - Feb '03 4.Extinction - By: Lisa Smedman - Aug '03 5.Annihilation - By: Philip Athans - Early '04 (guessing Feb like #3) 6.Resurrection - By: Mel Odom - Late '04 (Again guessing Aug '04 due to # 4)
And then a question... since i'm in the process of trying to collect all the novels... and those that have alternate covers (and hardcovers)... there are two titles i've seen alternate covers for on Amazon.com... but for some reason cannot locate them... 'Faces of Deception' has one that, from what i can see of the small picture, shows a man in a green cloak/cape with his face turned towards the reader and then what i'm guessing is the ogre bodyguard on the upper left side facing away from the reader, and along the right side of the cover is some bright greenish stuff of either a lit cavern or forest, can't tell. The cover is different than the one that leads through a forest to the ancient temple... The other book is Dream Spheres, where it would appear to be by the small picture, danilo and arilyn on the right sight, lit up by a light bluish light.. and what'd be behind them on the left side, a troglodyte (i'm guessing) lit up in a reddish orangish light... instead of the cover with Danilo and i believe Eliath surrounded by 3 troglodytes in the underground passageway or sewers. Any ideas? |

Thanks for the info Paul. Im REALLY looking forward to the trilogy, Erevis is one of the most exciting Realms personalities ive ever read about. And ill say again that Shadows Witness, so far, has got me hooked in big time! Im only part way into Chapter 3 (yeah yeah i know, i had a big backlog of novel reading to get thru, amonst other things) but the first two chapers really had my heart thumping fast and me sat on the edge of the seat! Absolutely fantastic! Ill be posting a review on the novel once ive completed it. If anyone else wishes to review the book for the site then please submit your entry at http://www.candlekeep.com/bookshelf/desk.htm

Tethtoril,
I really appreciate the kind words. Thank you. I'll look forward to your review (which I hope does not bias it in any way; when I started writing, I gave myself over to the realization that you have to take the good with the bad).

Im personally really looking forward to the Erevis Cale trilogy. Ive read the short story in Halls of Stormweather and loved it, im currently reading Shadows Witness, im only a few chapters in so far but its fantastically written and has me really hooked! One of the best novels ive read in a long time!!! I also believe theres an Erevis story in this months Dragon magazine.
Rad
Rad,
Thanks for the words. I appreciate it. There is, in fact, a Cale short story in the July issue of Dragon entitled, "All the Sinners, Saints." There was another Cale short story -- dealing with his past in Westgate -- in the November 2000 issue of Dragon entitled, "Another Name for Dawn."
Anyway, you're right about an Erevis Cale trilogy coming out. The first book, entitled "Twilight Falling," will be released in July 2003. The series is actually called "The Erevis Cale Trilogy," which, while not all that original, definitely makes the point.

Posted - 22 Aug 2002 : 20:33:49 I assume that "Condemnation" and "Extinction" are from the War of the Spider Queen series? Going by the pattern of single words for each novel so far!?
...Neverwinter Nights- May 03........ yeah yeah, ill believe it when i see it What was the big delay in that novel anyway!? surely it would have been ready well before the original release date of the computer game? When the game was delayed youd have thought that given the extra time that the novel would have been wrapped up completely?

Posted - 13 Aug 2002 : 11:37:38 Jason Hatter had some more Gencon information about the Realms that he posted earlier today on the FR Mailing list:
quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I notice that I didn't remember to mention one other product that is currently in the works. Rich Baker is working on another product that, but "the subject is Unapproachable....and it's interesting that I'm facing East as I'm telling you about it."
It will include information on the Demonlands as well (Narfell, Impiltur, etc), as well as information on the Drow under the plateau...which the red wizzies don't have as locked down as they think they do....
There were also hints about a novel, along the lines of Cormyr:A Novel, about Waterdeep. (Sirius note: I recall Elaine mentioning at one point and time her interest in writing such a novel).
I asked about the possibility of a historical short story collection that could be used as legends, and there were hints that, aside from the stuff that will be in Races of Faerun, something along that lines may come out...
hrm. That's all I can think of offhand. Rob, Malcolm, Tom, anyone else who was there, can you add anything I missed? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brian D. Gute added the following a short time later on the Mailing list:
quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, there was the mention of a novel about Elminster's daughter - at least one of the many.
Ed also mentioned that there are over a dozen more articles on the Border Kingdoms sitting on the editor of Polyhedron's desk. They're trying to decide what to do with them now - possibly they'll appear as web articles.
Ed's contract with Wizards (just the book department?) has been extended through 2007(?) if I'm remembering the details correctly.
I know there were a few other things mentioned between What's New in the Realms and Elminster Speaks, but I'm having a hard time remembering just now and didn't take notes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
