Well I dont get much time to read at home, theres far too much else to do (Realms-related of course! ), I read FR sourcebooks at home more than novels.... I find time to read novels at work more than anyway shhhhh dont tell the boss! |

As for recommendations...well, which Ravenloft novels have you read?.
Well obviously the Realms takes top priority in my reading schedule, but ive read:
Vampire of the Mists Knight of the Black Rose Spectre of the Black Rose Tapestry of Dark Souls There are a good few more that im anxious to read (I hear Heart of Midnight is very good...likened to Black Wolf of the Sembia Series), however, there was a period in Ravenloft fiction which went too much towards adaptations of classic gothic horror figures, such as Frankenstein and Jekkyl and Hyde which didnt appear to me. |

Posted - 01 Nov 2003 : 06:08:21 Well, in the manner that the character of Ghost had affected you, there really is not anyone within the Forgotten Realms that I can say I feel the same way about. Although that is not to say that those feelings are absent completely. One character above all others tends to generate a moderate level of dislike mainly attributed to the way he is usually portrayed. This character is Wulfgar. Since his introduction in the Icewind Dale trilogy, I have never really been 'comfortable' with a barbarian-type novel character...so much to the point that I felt very little emotion when he...
SPOILER FOR "THE LEGACY"
died after his battle with the yochlol. In fact when I first read this part of the book, I was looking forward to the future of the Companions of the Hall minus Wulfgar.
I really cannot explain the full reasoning behind this feeling, other than it being in someway connected to my dislike for the barbarian character class. I have always felt this way, especially when it comes to barbarian type novel characters...and the FR series is not alone in this, this feeling even transcends the WotC 'world of novels'.
As for recommendations...well, which Ravenloft novels have you read?.

Interesting.
Outside of FR, do you read any other fantasy novel series' (Ravenloft, Dragonlance, Greyhawk etc.) published by WotC?. If so, do any characters from these other series evoke the same feelings as Ghost?.
Well I have a backlog of FR books to read but I do read Ravenloft occasionally. I havent read that many but they sure leave an impression. Spectre of the Black Rose was the last one I read and I LOVED it! I suppose I hated Azrael (especially with regard to the "lift mechanism" (youll know what I mean if youve read it)). But nobody really got to me like Ghost did. Have you any recommendations, Sage? or any characters who you can say have affected you this way?

Thanks for the explanation Rad, I appreciate it.
I wonder though, do you look at any other characters in FR this way?.
Well whilst a lot of FR characters have intrigued me and left impressions on me, I have never felt actual in-depth feelings of hatred towards a character such as Ghost! Strange really that something like that actually affected me like it did. |

The cruelty and viciousness of Ghost just really made me grit my teeth whilst reading. R A Salvatore did a fantastic job in creating Ghost. I suppose you could say I loved to hate him (Ghost I mean, not Salvatore! )
Hope that makes it clearer

Well Met
Why I oughta..... Ahem, of course, It is my intention to collate such works to display in a permanant location within Candlekeep.
In addition, we Head Scribes are currently working on an online interactive knowledge quiz for the Realms...... and will be requesting your input shortly (remember, "shortly" to a scribe or sage does not mean tomorrow, nor the day after ) |

Posted - 26 Oct 2003 : 12:09:00 5 is related to the characters from the Cleric Quintet, but isn't directly part of the Quintet yet. Keeping the Quizzes in one place is a good idea. We'd just need an administrator or the like to merge the scrolls. As for the hints...those will appear on Monday. |

Posted - 26 Oct 2003 : 07:08:18 It's been such a long time since I have read the Cleric Quintet, that I cannot remember the answers to these questions.
Are you willing to provide some hints, for those of us who had read the books many years ago?.
Also, do you think it would be possible to keep all the 'Quiz' threads in the one scroll from now on?. It would make it alot easier to follow for those scribes that do not visit often. Any ideas Alaundo...
