Why did they not just send Simbul to investage a few indicdents? Gee. Maybe because she's running a country? Maybe she has to keep an eye on other deals? Remember, no-one knew what was happening, and it was relativly low level for them.

If you try to kill a fly, you don't use a nuke.

Just another reason I'm glad I'm never in any games you play, as I can add to list.
1: Nothing but wizards as bad guys.
2: Wizards rule game.
3: Will use major NPC's as heroes, rather then let the PC's do it.

I will admit that it was Elaine's Shadowelf that caused me to get it in the first place, that being the first FR book I ever read, and will always be special in my mind and heart.

I both like and hate it.

Like it because of Tam and Maligor, but hate it because of the Brenna and the 2 Harpers with her. Why not just send The Simbul in Harper's guise. Tam might have liked that.

I'm not a huge fan of the books about Caledon Caldorian, either, though part of that is simple (if extreme) dislike for the character names.

Throw in Night Parade and you more or less have my favourite list. With Crown of Fire of course.

Its difficult for me to say what was my least favourite, but it would probably be one of the five last books.

No surprises then, that I adored the "Caledon" books -- though mostly because of the considerable musical Realmslore they both contained.

Yeah, I kinda forgot about that. My current web access location doesn't allow for the viewing of avatars.
Dracons Posted - 27 Jul 2010 : 09:05:16
Oh Sage, like your avatar wasn't a dead giveaway you at least respected the book, though I was pretty sure you liked it personally myself.
Jorkens Posted - 27 Jul 2010 : 08:55:01
Ah, that's one of the books I haven't read. I think I have seen a couple of negative comments about Red Magic, but not in the way of most of the Nobles series. The worst book in the best series might not be that bad. Most likely I would like it if I read it, but unfortunately I have far to many books on my reading list at the moment.
The Sage Posted - 27 Jul 2010 : 08:41:46
Eh. I liked Red Magic. But then I'm always a sucker for all-things-Red Wizard-or-Thay.

OK, I got to ask. Which book is the worst one? Although I haven't read all of them personally cant think of a title that is more or less universally disliked.
Faraer Posted - 26 Jul 2010 : 18:13:30
Amazon Marketplace sellers often set prices, either manually or with computer programs, to match or marginally undercut existing prices, so you can get one unrealistically high price (thinks it's worth more than it is, or hoping to get lucky) and several others following it.

Just hold out and keep watching ebay. I had to replace the Double Diamond saga due to water damage at my home. I kept watching ebay for several months and ended up replacing the whole series for around $20.
The Sage Posted - 26 Jul 2010 : 11:42:35
Some authors tend to go through periods of intense popularity on auction and/or second-hand sites. It's almost a buyer's frenzy at times.

This looks to be a similar case.
Wooly Rupert Posted - 26 Jul 2010 : 11:21:12
When I was replacing them, I picked up the entire trilogy, in like new condition, for only $20 or so. This was just a couple years ago.

If it's on Amazon for $60, someone thinks they've got something really rare. It's like the guy trying to sell the Double Diamond Triangle Saga on eBay for $250 -- I've never seen it go higher than $70, and that's rare that it goes that high.

Well, I know to buy used, but even that is nearly $10, when the first 2 are around $1.

I have not read much of the harper series(only Songs and Swords, and Shrandil's saga; I did not like that trillogy much) so I don't think I could guess.
Dracons Posted - 26 Jul 2010 : 06:31:27
Likely because there are so few brand NEW copies, that a untouched copy likely could sell for that amount on ebay.

If you want it, just buy a used one, for a major fraction of the price. (I own it myself. I liked the series, though I haven't read it in YEARS.

I feel worst that my fave Forgotten Realms book has the biggest haters. (Not a dritz book. Though I don't like RA Salavotre)

Go ahead. Guess what book I love that people hate so much. (Hint: Part of the Harper series)
