I have a lot of Forgotten Realms books and the thing I like most about the old ones (other than what is inside) is the covers. They seem so different than the newer ones. The newer look more computer generated and the older ones looked like they were drawn by hand. My favorites are Streams of Silver and Pool of Radiance. |

And I only saw it in passing (my edition is newer, luckily) but it was really horrible. |

I suppose I have a fondness in my heart for the old painterly covers, but only the way that you think you like something from your youth until you really go back and look at it again. I still laugh out loud at the original cover to Daughter of the Drow.

I like the covers for Azure Bonds, Pool of Radiance, Spellfire, and Streams of Silver. So far I own the prints for the first two. Eventually I will own them all!
Dragon magazine cover art was great during this time period too. |

I'd personally like to see some of the artists who do the interiors for the RPG books do more covers. I am particularly fond of Todd Lockwood. Everything they put on their covers right now seems like bad Brom ripoffs.

The Stawicki cover of Time of the Twins is one of my favorite covers of all time. I even have it as a desktop wallpaper which I use quite often. |

Clyde Caldwell's Streams of Silver is what caught my eye in a bookstore at around age 12 and I've been reading the realms since. I still like Drizzt on the cover of that book more than any other RAS novel (and the Black and white picture inside Realms of Valor), although every one of Todd Lockwoods Leagend of Drizzt Books, Sellswords, Hunter's Blades, Transitions covers are phenomenal!
The original Cleric Quintet covers were better too.
The reprints for the new Omnibus's (Threat from the Sea, Erevis Cale, Return of the Arhcwizrds, House of Serpents are superior to the originals though IMO.
I also like the reprint Starlight and Shadow covers to the original.
The Sembia Series reprints are also nicer (I own the original)
Niether printing of the Twilight Giants was to my taste despite very much enjoying the series (I read in well over ten years ago now though).

Both Clyde Caldwell covers, as I recall. I loved it when all of TSR's are was from Larry Elmore, Clyde Caldwell, and Jeff Easley.  |
