Posted - 07 May 2010 : 16:55:57 No, Brim, I was only pulling a number (1485) out of thin air. I have no way of knowing exactly which year RAS will end up with, yet. |

Posted - 06 May 2010 : 23:09:22 So RA gets to write his 4E Novels a good 5 Years ahead of everbody else? The Current year is 1480 according to the Living Realms.

Posted - 06 May 2010 : 19:40:10 From a chat session:
quote: 7:04 [Comment From Morgan AllgoodMorgan Allgood: ] I was wondering if there will be Drizzt books set in the current era of Forgotten Realms to look forward to?
7:05 RASalvatore: Current era? Meaning where they left off or in the current Realms era, which is 100 years in the future? [...]
7:06 [Comment From Morgan AllgoodMorgan Allgood: ] That is the era to which I'm referring. Will he be in 4E era in any books. [...]
7:06 RASalvatore: If you mean current, as in right after Ghost King, not for a while.
The book I'm writing right now[, Gauntlgrym,] advances the timeline greatly, catching up to the Realms. (bold added; <Live Chat: R.A. Salvatore>, 16-OCT-2009, Suvudu.com)
Whether that means that he will start where The Ghost King left off, in 1385 DR, and then quickly skip ahead to 1485 DR; or if he will just start off in 1485 DR and give us a few flashbacks to key events that have transpired in the meantime; I cannot say. It does sound like he will be breezing over the next century rather quickly, either way, though, and may never come back to fill in the details. And that concerns me, a bit.
4E FRCG spoiler: Since the dwarves (including Mithral Hall) leave the League of Silver Marches over concerns about the orcs, and Bruenor eventually dies, these would seem to be very significant events that need to be described in detail. I would seriously hope that RAS doesn't just skim over them in passing. I've actually begged him in an e-mail to make darn sure and give us a super-heroic send-off for the red-beared one! /spoiler |

It is the most likely guess (unfortunately ), but I still had hopes it might be something different...
I'm inclined to agree. Now, if it were to be an actual exploration-tale of Gauntlgrym as a human city built for them by the dwarves of Delzoun, I'd be entirely more ineterested.
Totally agree there with you sage! The setting has an enormous potential.
However a classical Drizzt "God-Mode" story would most likely not provide maximum results. My main criticism about RAS's writing style generally is, that he is good at describing fighting scenes and bad at decribing settings and creating setting atmosphere. The latter however is exactly what I would wish for when reading a novel set in Gauntlgrym... |

I will probably check this novel out.
I stopped reading after the Orc King. |

Posted - 05 May 2010 : 01:00:15 I hope Drizzt is in it. But I also hope that the change in timeline/setting and cast of characters will reinvigorate the series and bring us something new, different, and exciting. |

Posted - 04 May 2010 : 16:40:03 Wow, any synopsis available? Who are the characters? |

Posted - 04 May 2010 : 04:49:39 I would assume in the 'current' time. 1480 DR. Maybe a flashback here and there. |
