Quick question, in looking forward to the new series brotherhood of the griffin. i read somewhere that Aoth the main character of the series is a charter that has been written about before. Im wondering what books hes been in? |

I also feel pretty late.
I also feel like I'm the only one who hasn't read the Haunted Lands series. I did read the Year of Rogue Dragons series, and literally howled with delight when I saw Brimstone in Captive Flame. I hope that more familiar faces show up!

I agree about the back-cover copy. I thought that the packaging in general was great on this one. If that cover doesn't say sword and sorcery, I've never seen one that does. |

Just read the first book of Brotherhood of the Griffon, and I really liked it. Also, I'd like to extend my compliments to whoever put the blurb on the backside together.
Nobody dared to cross Chessenta...
He saved his people
He rose from the dead.
Now that we need him,
He will come again.
We only have to believe.
...When the Red Dragon was king.
I knew I simply had to get the book after reading that. |

WOW! This was a fantastic novel! I'm a huge fan of The Haunted Lands series and by the looks of it, this series is going to be even better! Richard, as always, you've given us an excellent read. I'm really looking forward to Whisper of Venom. |

I'm currently reading "Captive Flame" and I find that I'm agreeing with the other members of the forum about how good the book is. I was a fan of The Haunted Land series (only complaint was that a lot of good characters got killed off there, haha) and it was great to see that Aoth and the rest of the mercenary company returned for this new series.
The funny thing was that when I picked up the book two days ago, I didn't realize that Aoth was going to be the main character in this novel. I just saw that Richard Lee Byers had a new book so I grabbed it right away, looked at the back cover and saw the mention of Tzchazzar and I knew I had to buy the book right away.
I'm about halfway through the book and it was great to see the return of an old character not just from The Haunted Land series but previous novels that Richard Lee Byers wrote and hopefully by the end of the book there will be more appearances by more characters. |

I'm about halfway through the book now, I must say quite a breath of fresh air. Without giving away any spoilers it's already shaping up as a great read that I only picked up 2 days ago. I love the way it is giving me a good mental grasps of the lay of the land in and around Chessenta and it's neighboring realms. I liked Aoth a lot in the HL trilogy and maybe it's the fact I've finally got a character with some history I know or the expansion of his lieutenants as larger characters, but this is quickly becoming my new favorite book set in the "new" Realms.
The great work of building up the group of main characters and handling their own side stories to build the subplots of the main one is really what makes the book flow so well. It's also the laying of the groundwork of building a new group of characters to get invested in that I like so much. Something that Steve Schend did well in Blackstaff Tower and Richard Baker did in the "Blades of the Moonsea" trilogy.
Very excited to know once I get done this I'll only have to wait until November to read the 2nd in the series. Great work Richard! I haven't been a big fan of the time jump and some of the other books set in the new Realms, but this one (and the series as a whole) has me hooked already through just 200 pages. |

Hi, skychrome. I think it's a positive development, too., and I think it should be good for writers as well as readers. If the books come out faster, writers get the payments that come at various points through the publishing process faster. And, the books start earning royalties sooner. Plus, if the publisher starts bringing out two of a writer's books per year instead of just one, the writer is selling the publisher twice as many books.

Richard, I just wanted to mention that I feel it is a very good development that novels of a trilogy are released more closely together. In the past it was necessary to re-read everything when starting a newly released novel because publishing dates where too far away one from each other. I think this is a very positive and reader-friendly development although it probably means, that you will see monetary benefits much later after handing in the first novels. |

Yes, Amazon is talking about November of 2010 as the release date for Whisper of Venom. WotC decided to bring out the trilogy more quickly this time around. The Spectral Blaze, the final volume, is coming out in June, 2011. (So I guess I better finish it sometime soon.) |

"Whisper of Venom" is lited on amazon with the release date in November.... this year? Does it mean that the whole trilogy will be released so quick? Previosuly, it was about a year gap between each book.

I only very recently learned that Brian James has written a great article about Chessenta and that a map has been drawn as well. They're terrific contributions to the lore of the 4e Realms, but they do nothing to help me write Brotherhood of the Griffon. I've been working on the trilogy since 2008. The final versions of Books 1 and 2 were turned in long ago. I'm halfway done with writing Book 3. So you can see there's really no way for any of the new information to make its way into the story. |

Another good news. Maybe there'll be another awesome, powerful lich in it?  I just noticed your masterpieces never lack this type of character. Not that I complain. In fact I like them (Syrzan, Sammaster, Tam). Perhaps next time it's LARLOCH? |
