Posted - 29 Nov 2009 : 03:57:19 The omnibus of Return of the Archwizards is going to be releasing in a few days and I had a couple of quick questions. Also, in case the questions don't make it obvious, I haven't read these.
First, am I right in assuming it only has the three main novels and not Realms of Shadow?
Second, does anything critical (or interesting, mildly important, etc) occur in Realms of Shadow? Enough to make it worth reading along with the Omnibus?
As a follow on to the second question, if I were to try to read it along with the Omnibus, does it fit in at a particular point in the storyline?
Thanks for the help. |

Posted - 09 Dec 2009 : 04:11:27 Elminster in Hell and the events in The Summoning are indeed connected, although there is a minor plot discrepancy since Storm knows that Elminster has sealed the rift from the inside in Troy Denning's story and yet does not appear to possess or act on this knowledge in Elminster in Hell.
Elminster in Hell can be read after the trilogy, mainly since Elminster and the Simbul are absent throughout the remainder of Troy Denning's tale.
Also, the omnibus edition does not have the map of Evereska that appears in The Sorcerer, though a similar map is in the 4E Campaign Guide. |

Posted - 06 Dec 2009 : 06:03:07 Thanks for that link to the larger timeline.
I am through The Summoning and onto The Siege now and another question has come to mind as far as this series. I have not read Elminster in Hell (or any of the other 4 Elminster books) so I have to ask, is the battle in Shadowdale towards the end of The Summoning what leads into Elminster in Hell or is it an amazing coincidence? It seems like it fits both the events timeline and the publication timeline of the respective books so I assume it is not a coincidence. |

Thanks. I am reading through the Drizzt books in between other FR books so I was curious where it all worked out in the timeline.

Posted - 01 Dec 2009 : 07:20:22 Ah, thanks for refreshing my memory, Wooly. 'Tis a marvellous tool, to be sure.
The timeline can be found here: http://rasalvatoreforums.yuku.com/topic/4372/master/1/.
According to the timeline, That Curious Sword takes place in the autumn of 1367 DR, between Servant of the Shard and Promise of the Witch-King. |

As far as Artemis, is his transformation mentioned in other books? I suppose the better question is, does that story take place at a certain point in the timeline?
One of the members here has a Drizzt timeline in their signature -- I'm afraid I can't remember who, though.
I'll see if I can find it for you.
'Tis BEAST. He's a most dedicated fan of RAS's work, and has put a lot of work into his Drizzt timeline. |

Posted - 01 Dec 2009 : 01:27:25 I see. Thanks for the insight. After I read the trilogy I think I will go ahead and track that down.

Posted - 29 Nov 2009 : 11:10:19 From memory the Realms of Shadows looks at other NPCs during the period the events of the Return of the Archwizards occur. So nothing nothing relating to the core story per se.
However there is the short story on how Ertemis becomes part Shade and comes across Charon's Claw. |
